Planar close to a rear wall? Quad for example?
I used to have my Apogee Stages 18 inches from the walland they sounded fine--not boomy or compressed at all.Maybe the soundstage was a somewhat flat but the tonalityand realism of the Stages was so awesome that I didn't care. I don't have them an...
New transport in EMM CDSA?
This info was from the Galen Carol Winter 2008 newsletter:[the CDSA] has been updated with a new German-sourced drive mechanism featuring stabilizing rods for the sled assembly and an all metal tray. These changes make for a more stable and quiete...
What do you think of Vandersteen 5a's?
I just wanted to compliment mlsstl's response above as maybe the most insightful remarks ever written about speaker quality I've ever read. (They are really words to live by, so take every review with a grain of salt.)To go even further, as I gain...
Soundstage...How to determine what's right?
You know, I think the most important clue to a great soundstage is when something is coming from the far left or right it does not sound like it is coming directly from the driver or even the front of the speaker itself. Instead, it should sound d...

Yep Mitchb, the B52 may be my favorite piece of equipment I ever bought in decades of this habit. (OK, honestly,my biggest thrill came from my very first speakers,Dynaco A25s too many years ago...).
New Audio Physic Virgo 5 ?

Review: Ray Samuels Audio Apache Headphone Amplifier Amplifier
It sure is amazing.Ray's stuff is very well known (and renowned)on head-fi, but not at all here on audiogon. The B52 isa remarkable preamp and a relative bargain, I would say.

Review: Ray Samuels Audio Apache Headphone Amplifier Amplifier
I upgraded to Ray's B52 tubed headphone amplifier/preamp. It is remarkable. In short, the B52 may be the best component I've ever bought in 30 years of audiophilia. It seems to cure (or substantially reduce) the ills of everything else in the syste...
