Thiel 3.7
Good stuff James! I really appreciate all that research you did for me. The dynaudio idea is also good. I think my most memorable experience was the Evidences about 10 years ago (at the late Soundex in Willow Grove PA). Best to you.
Thiel 3.7
Anthony Cordesman said this in his Nov. 2008 3.7 TAS review that was otherwise a rave:"You will hear the hardness & excessive upper-octave energy that is actually present in far too many classical recordings of piano, flute, clarinet, violin. ...

Are the 3.7s bright or piercing in the upper mids which I remember the Absolute Sound review mentioned? The 3.7s seemed to much more highly regarded around here in the forums than the reviews (which I find interesting).I also remember a Stereophile...
Ray Samuels B52 headphone amp as preamp?
Thanks again Jrinkerptdnet.
Ray Samuels B52 headphone amp as preamp?
Thanks Jrinkerptdnet. That makes sense to me that it was meant for a passive preamp. Therefore it just seems puzzling why it is used so often in active preamps/headphone amps.
Ray Samuels B52 headphone amp as preamp?
Yeah, one of my big pet peeves are that a number of headphone amps use the Dact 24-stepper. I also never get beyond 5-6 steps with any headphone amp that uses this.I don't even know why anyone would make an attenuator with so few steps. I would ac...
Do you ever doubt you ears ?
No, I can easily hear differences, even if I can't articulate them better than saying there is an overall correctness and ease and transparency and grip to the sound, and that's what I look for in a cable (IC or power or speaker.)God it makes a hu...
room tuning 12ftx12ft room
Thanks Lacee. Yeah, from what I read, the Grand Veenas sound like classics. I always liked the silky but resolved sound of the Ref3a room at the NYC Stereophile show in a small hotel room as I remember.

So Lacee, how are those Grand Veenas? Have the stood the test of time? Thanks.

Hum issue - driving me more crazy
PS Audio has something called a Humbuster (now version 3).Never tried it.
emm cdsa SE vs. Esoteric x-03 SE or x-05
I only heard the older Esoterics (DV-50 I think) but my EMM CDSA SE is much more resolving, even in stock form. I had mine upgraded with the X-upgrade that you can do later if you get the EMM which makes it superb, warm & resolving at the same...
Zu Omen or Tekton Lore
And does anyone think the Tektons would be OK on the long wall of a 22x14 foot room, with me about 8 feet from the speakers and the back of the speakers about 1.5-2 feet from the wall behind them? Amp is an Edge NL12.1 (300 wpc).Thanks.
Zu Omen or Tekton Lore
I wonder why this thread is so long. Are these very special speakers?
Is Stealth Sakra IC is really better than Indra?
Thanks Bullot and Inna. Yep, I always doubt the notion of X% difference in something that is qualitative, not quantitative. If that 1% is, say, an opaque bass or ringing midrange, that could make the component totally unacceptable, and suddenly 1%...
