Digital gain vs analog gain
Boom!
Digital gain vs analog gain
Apple Lossless is an interesting direction…although when I read their FAQ, they seemed to note that their format works via Bluetooth, but the benefits are not applicable?
Digital gain vs analog gain
To be clear yoyoyaya, I'm using a BlueMe Bluetooth Receiver from my iPhone as a DAC, with its output going into an un-powered Shiit with a volume pot. I've been keeping my old Crown PS200 amp at 100% attenuation and am experimenting with varying t...
Enjoying Wharfedale Linton Heritage Speakers
This speaker may be the Golden Retriever of the big box revival. Friendly, warm and pretty, LOL But I can also totally understand the temptation to add some more modern performance to make them more like a Border Collie. Folks at the Linton owner...
Digital gain vs analog gain
Very helpful summary…and on the money to my learning curve. Since I enjoy my Wharfedale Lintons and ample vintage Crown power at different volumes in our cozy bungalow, am I correct in saying that using the final attenuator knobs on the amp are th...
Digital gain vs analog gain
…aaand, knowing just enough to be dangerous, it seems that too little gain can hurt signal to noise rstio?
Digital gain vs analog gain
Understood. When playing streaming music from my iPhone I can control the final volume of listening by changing the output level of the app (which I assume is digital) or changing the analog output level on my Shiit pre-amp to my analog amp or cha...
Speaker Choice under $750 for blues...
KLH Model 5s and JBL L100s miss the price point but probably have the bite and retro looks to do the job. Interested in your decision and how it works out.
Question to those believing in speaker break in
Letting them play normally for break-in can be part of the fun, FWIW. Between acclimating your own ears to your new units…and allowing you to measure changes in your speaker from the process. Having fun with hi-fi is often part that’s forgotten in...
Enjoying Wharfedale Linton Heritage Speakers
FWIW, Mr. Comeau shared that it took him over 170 tries to decide on the final crossover spec for the latest Mission three-way big box. Fun to learn that English Hi-Fi has a history of its own. As a young American in the ‘70s I missed that fact al...
Ditching Class A Amps due to Heat - Sort of a Poll
No heat concerns here. My pair of 1980s Crown PS/200 amps benefit from a really good chassis design that keeps them very cool without a need for any fans. Actually cold when playing music not even close to being hot at idle.
Break In Failed
Always a fun topic :) IMO, something happens, but it’s not a mechanical “hard data” point in the life of your loudspeaker. In my most recent experience, I’m lucky owner of a pair of Wharfedale Heritage 85 Lintons. They are a very interesting set o...
Recommended Bookshelf Speakers $1200
Warefedale Heritage 85 Series is worth a listen. Dentons are $1k two-ways. I love my open box 3-way Lintons at $1.1k, but they’re a bit big to be considered bookshelves.
Mesh network versus a simple Wi-Fi extender
Netgear Orbi WiFi 6 devices are extremely stable. We use a four satellite mesh network in a 5,000 sq ft 1867 brick home that serves as our local historical society HQ and that mesh system was a game changer. Device allocation can be monitored from...
4 ohm tap vs 8 ohm tap
No taps on my Crown PS-200s. The spec sheet says it supports 4, 8 and 16 ohm impedance. 170 wpc at 4 ohm, 100 wpc at 8 ohm, 55 wpc at 16 ohm - max average at 0.1% THD. Just swapped in a lovely pair of new Wharfedate Liniton Heritage Speakers liste...
