What speaker could safely be ordered without hearing it first?
If safe is your goal in both performance and budget (and checking out your room) the latest generation of Mission 770 or Wharfedale Heritage line big baffles are well made MidFi all-rounders. I confess to being a fan of the Peter Comeau IAG design...
Buying Used Equipment on the Internet
Have had good luck buying used on/line FWIW. Good advice abounds in this thread. Look at seller history and other items they sell, avoid Friends and Family requirement. Also, spend some time looking at going prices for your target equipment…there ...
When are speakers considered Hi-Fi and not Mid-Fi???
Sorry, but not a useful parsing. There are speakers under $1500 a pair that would embarrass most golden ear audiophiles in blind A/B test. HiFi vs MidFi is only about price and perceived brand value. Companies make ROI decisions based on volume of...
High end speakers at low volume
Leak 130 and a pair of Wharfedale Heritage Lintons or  Mission 770s. My job here is done LOL
Integrating speakers into contemporary decor - can WAF ever be overcome?
Three word solution. Wharfedale Heritage Lintons LOL
I am just very happy with my system.
PSS - If there’s one topic that never adds to the body of agreed info? Let’s start another thread about burn-in/break-in LOL
I am just very happy with my system.
PS Props to this forum for providing a wealth of “refinement” info. There is no doubt that my system has steadily gotten better through small dollar (or zero dollar) tweaks using technical info shared here…about everything from component gain opti...
I am just very happy with my system.
Happy here…and giving a thumbs up to the idea of small refinements, including room reflection, speaker placement and, for me, considering the ROI of modest power conditioning on a mid-fi system with heritage model big baffle speakers.
Does a weave of cables really make a difference?
FWIW, about a year ago, I finally got serious about cables. I’m a mid-fi guy who basks in the wide range of knowledge in forums like this…but I’m not compelled to chase listening perfection at the cost of running a string of polo ponies LOL. Beca...
Bass- at what frequency does it change from sounding like a string to just a low tone?
Great thread. FWIW my combo of Wharfedale Heritage Lintons and REL T5i connected with Mogami cables, including speaker-level custom Neutrik to the sub, is a dream date. Easy to make the sub disappear. The REL volume knob is click equipped, so I ke...
Making speakers “disappear”…..
Good question. Good answers. FWIW I kinda get it about the direct sound and the first reflected wave. Probably took two months to make a set of spanky new Wharfdale Heritage Lintons disappear in a big asymmetrical 1924 bungalow bedroom, but it was...
Starting from scratch and say $5000
If you don’t have the option of hearing a lot of equipment in person, a decision about whether you prefer richness or resolution might be helpful in hitting your budget number…at least in terms of speakers. I’ve heard some really smart folks in hi...
Tidal class-action
Not a lawyer, but to me, the more likely outcome (if there is a false claim shown in the MQA pitch about the existence of master files) would be for the Fed Gov to levy a fine and prohibit use of the offending claim in advertisements. More an issu...
Tidal class-action
My corn popping curiosity is enjoying the thread, but to be honest my ears are fine with an AudiFi, 4Stream and Apple Music Lossless. My MidFi system is noise tweaked and cabled well enough to be resolving and I feel I can hear the improvements at...
Budget re-cabling
Not an expert but super pleased with a mix of chunky Mogami 3103 DIY speaker level and smaller gauge custom Mogami interconnects from Pro Audio LA, including a Canart-like digital coax from Mogami for the slightly longer run RCA to 1/4” for my mai...
