room design help Don't forget the ceiling measurements with the golden ratio! The ceiling is usually the limiting factor and equally important. For example if the ceiling is 8 feet high, then the length and width of the room must be 13 by 21 feet. If the ceiling i...
Tweaks and upgrades that aren't gimmicks Instead of two stereo speakers in the front, try four identical stereo speakers (two left, and two right),(two in the center, and two outside). Play all four at the same volume so no separate attenuator will be needed. Angle the center speakers ou...

What is the best redbook CD player for 6K to 8K? Thanks for all your help. I have checked around and found local dealers for Esoteric, Audio Research, Sim Audio Moon Products, Mark Levinson, and Ayre Audio. Audio Aero Capitole looked promising, but the closest dealer is in Canada, so that's out....
Which Is Better: Esoteric DV50s or Levinson 390s? Condider the $8,200 Esoteric UX-3 Universal player if you want to kill two birds with one stone. It's like getting the sound quality of the $6,700 Levinson 390S CD player AND the video quality of one of the best DVD players for $1,500 more. The di...
Equipment that has made you 'stop' looking? Klipschorn Speakers, Mark Levinson Amps, Placette Linestage Preamps are the end of the rainbow for me. Source players will plague me for the rest of my life
Esoteric DV50S, Any Plans to Discontinue? Dbld I didn't know that . Thanks for the headsup. My plan is to use the Logic 7 in the Lexicon MC-4 Digital Processor to create the multichannels from 2 channels on the DVD-A, and SACD discs. I've ben told that the MC-4 does a better job in most c...
Esoteric X-03 There is the Esoteric UX-3 Universal Player for about $8,000. There is only one Esoteric choice if your budget is $6,000 and that is the Esoteric DV-50S Universal player. Since you are not interested in multichannel sound, this unit may not be for...
Esoteric DV50S, Any Plans to Discontinue? If you want to upgrade, look into the $8,000 Esoteric UX-3 Universal Player instead of the $6,000 DV-50S. For a couple thousand more, the UX-3 is light years ahead of the DV-50S in quality of construction, and sound. Today the ML-39 equivalent is ...
Best headphones you've ever heard/used To reiterate what Marakanetz posted here on 7/8/04, Stax Omega beats all! For $3,000 for the headspeakers and driver, I hope so.
Subs for horn systems You need a horn loaded sub to keep up with your horn system. The TacT subs are designed to fit into the corner of the room and be as efficient and fast as horn speakers. They are expensive, however, I got there prototypes at a fraction of the cost...
Subwoofer in the corner? Forget about it Scott, I think that you misunderstood me. Banging on the walls will create a "boooom" sound all around the room (in the corners as well as the wall). That boom is wall resonance and will make your room vibrate at that frequency as the sub creates ...
Subwoofer in the corner? Forget about it Stanhifi: Not so fast with the negative response. If you paid attention to what I was saying, you would have realized I agreed that the subwoofer was there to reproduce every low frequency note accurately. The difference with having the subs in th...
Subwoofer in the corner? Forget about it The boomy bass that most audiophiles hear is due to resonance of the walls, not the corner position of the subwoofers. The corner position of the subwoofer intensifies the bass by acting as a megaphone which also can intensify the boomy resonance....
Sound Proof??? The closer you move to the speakers, the less volume that you will need to enjoy the sound. This will also satisfy your neighbors. Sitting five feet from your speakers is a bit unconventional, but it's a good compromise. |
