Would the Audio Aero Capitole better Theta
A system that sounds "right" with the Theta, will not sound "right" with the Audio Aero, and vice versa. The Audio Aero is way more natural and the Theta sounds hyped up. I sold my Theta and Meridian gear for Audio Aero and Res Audio CD-55 respect...
Greatest Songwriter of all time
Agree with Guy Clark being up there - but Cold Dog Soup didn't do it for me. I reckon Dublin Blues, Boats To Build and his live album Keepers are his best. But the "experts" argue his best song writing is on Old No. 1. Eric Taylor, Tom Russell and...
Anyone ever experiment w/ better circuit breakers?
Yep - ceramic fuses are best downunder too!
What to put under speakers on a ceramic tile shelf
My experience suggests Lak is right. When it comes to setting up various speakers on ceramic tiled floors - I have tried everything known to man (only about a third of what is known to woman). Brass has often been best, particularly with panels. W...
XLO Signature Speaker Cable Question
Thanks Dtsag. They sure are Purple and Grey. They are just 4 feet long with spades, so obviously only suitable for monoblocks.
200w/ch stereo amps: best 1 for under 2000 used?
Hi KarlsI agree totally - I have never liked either Naim or Linn stuff much. Shame they make this PRAT issue such a dogmatic one, and therefore less well considered in audiphile writings than it should be.
plinius vs perreaux integrateds
Thanks Sean - great to have time to be here again. The Plinius comes right eventually, but it can take three months of running before it hits the sweet spot. I am not a big fan of the SA100, preferring the SA250 in its Mk IV iteration. But the SA1...
? Sonic Frontiers? SFM-160's or Power 3
I have never heard the two in a head-to-head situation, but my memory of them separately is that you should spend the extra $1200 and get the Power 3s if you can afford them. In particular, the SFM-160 is on the soft and soggy side - that old tube...
Best thread poster for 2001?
Summer holidays, and I am returning to this old haunt to find the same (mainly) bunch of crazy characters are still here. What's more they remember me!This really is a fantastic site. I have met here some wonderful people, and several of them have...
plinius vs perreaux integrateds
One has to generalise as both produce a range of product. The Plinius is a transistor design and sounds like it - a little crisp, slightly wiry in the upper mids, and slight hard grain in the treble. If the Perreaux is not Mosfet (which I think it...
200w/ch stereo amps: best 1 for under 2000 used?
Hi PapertigerOn my side of the road, I reckon that Harry Pearson of The Absolute Sound gave us a lot of interesting stuff to read, but mainly failed to take us in the right direction. Of course the ideal is to reproduce the sound as it occurred wh...
Question about CD 'Resolution'
Listening to it. No other way makes any sense - the concept of sub-optimalisation.
Martin Logan's Speakers Placement??
I believe 4 to 5 feet from the back wall is best and around 7 feet apart. Mild toe-in - shine a flash-light on them from your listening position and the reflection should be about a quarter to a third of the way across the panel.
200w/ch stereo amps: best 1 for under 2000 used?
I'm plugging the local product here - but a very underrated option in your price range is the Plinius 8200P (which is the power amp part of the 8200). I have been playing with one (hey, they are only USD1,000 here you know - I am thinking of getti...
Opinions on Wireworld Gold Eclipse III+
Lovely cables - have loads of detail and dynamics, and just a tad forward - but this is not to imply brightness or thinness - in fact they have a full-bodied weight to them that is matched by very few other cables. My only complaint was that PRAT ...
