Plinius amp and Conrad-Johnson 16LS JD, the Placette has a very clean grainless mid that, if it has a coloration, it is an added sparkle - a slight golden glow. The SA102 sounds much more like the SA250 than the SA100 III did - ie more liquid (less dry - whatever) and fuller, plus be...
OK - now total confusion has set in My vote is with Neuance too, and I entirely agree with Brulee, nor have I met Ken either. But it seems at least two of us are saying we have found the answer (except for under the heavy stuff), and that nothing else comes close. Do yourself a favo...
OK - now total confusion has set in Yes Doc - and wire is wire - and all amplifiers sound the same - and CDs are perfect - Yes Doc, we know.
Need remote control advice The best remote on the market, in my opinion, is the Home Theatre Master MX-500. One of its many impressive features is the strength of its signal. My gear sits behind a couch and the MX-500 works it without fault. But definitely try before you bu...
OK - now total confusion has set in You have my sympathy Ndmaitre. It is indeed a shame that no conventional wisdom has emerged in this area - and the territory is littered with devices that merely change the sound, with claims of magical improvement. Looks like you will need to do ...
Plinius amp and Conrad-Johnson 16LS I like the Placette buffered preamp - has none of the hard grain of most moderately priced ss preamps, and has the pacing that is so hard to find in valve preamps. Can be had on a money back trial - but its construction is tenuous. My advice is do...
Plinius amp and Conrad-Johnson 16LS Hi JDRemember those Plinius amps need 3 months of decent use to come right. You will also find the SA102 to be warmer and more liquid than the SA100 MkIII. I doubt that a tube preamp is the way to go since you will lose the pacing of the Plinius (...
Aerius or small maggies? The Aerius are nice Nick. The thing that drives me crazy with them is the enormous phase shift they have. It irritates the heck out of me. The maggies do not suffer so badly in this regard. The Aerius seems also to need about 150W or so, but this ...
Sakura Systems OTA Cable Kit I agree with the post - several posts back - about not twisting the cable. The sonic result is awful. However, one configuration that sounded very good to me was;- get a length of plastic rod or tube with good dialectric qualities and good flexibi...
Fuse or braker for dedicated lines? I am indeed thankful to live in NZ Kelly - just a shame that our incomes here mean your US gear is very difficult to afford. My financial state could use some US-style income right now. Albert Porter's experience with getting a dedicated feed from...
Would the Audio Aero Capitole better Theta Hi Brulee. I tend to agree - the Audio Aero will not fit into all systems, maybe only half, and even less when price is taken into account (fortunately mine cost less than half the US price - and please, don't ask me how, for I will not tell).
Fuse or braker for dedicated lines? Hi Bob. Thanks for your email.Hoping to move right along to further insights (as opposed to bickering over old ones) - one of the most useful things in my experience, is to regularly call up the local electricity supplier and complain of noise on ...
Cheap preamp/no preamp/passive preamp question... Just do what Streetdaddy says and you will not regret it one little bit.
Most eye-opening upgrade and what you learned I'll say it for Ken. I alternate between valves and SS, between cones and panels, thumping fat cables and weed whacker cord, software formats. But one thing never changes - Ken's Neuance shelves beat all-comers every time. I'm a demon tweaker, but...
Fuse or braker for dedicated lines? Just want to add that in talking to people in Nth America, Europe , UK, Aust and here in NZ, it is marked that independent experimentation has revealed a preference for ceramic fuses. And this has been my experience too. |
