Completely passive audio system... This thread gave me such new insight that I tried a quick experiment. Elsewhere there has been discussion of the sound of different forms of breakers. Eureka - what would be the sound of no breaker at all. Feverishly I removed the ceramic breakers...
Placette pre amp I hope you rethink that - Drubin has got it right in my opinion.
Is it my imagination? I agree with the points made, and support the mechanism of the free market. On the other hand it misleads buyers who make offers in good faith and are either mucked about while the auction concludes, or stood up when the eBay bid price closes the ...
Tube Preamp Advice Needed But wait, there's more, call Kasboot now and you get the free fish knife, but wait there's more, the first 1000 lucky callers will get the ....
Tube Preamp Advice Needed I reckon Jtinn's suggestion is a good one - I would be very surprised if you did not get a better result that way.
which direction do this cable go? I found that my D60 sounded more forward in one direction and more laid-back in the other. The maker, incidentally does not believe directionality exists, so you are on your own. My slight preference was for the direction that had a more forward s...
Balanced vs RCA preamp output I tend to agree Beemer - the Sonic Frontiers is another case in point. But there are also amps that have balanced connections that are not internally balanced at all. These tend to sound worse when using balanced cables, than with RCA.
Passive preamp and biamping Playing through a passive at a very high setting means the output impedence of the passive is very high - therefore heightening the downsides of a passive. If you really love the passive, then I would look at a power amp with high gain and high in...
Sistrum Platforms Brulee, your comments have been echoed by several others and so I do not have any reason to doubt them. I would expect talking to Robert would only confirm your experience. What we saw last year was a series of posts on Audiogon in praise of Sistru...
Digital Shootout The Miles would be my choice over the Sony - the Sony sounding a bit cool and mechanical - the Miles being very dynamic, rich, but a tad hyped up and forward. For similar money the Resolution Audio CD50 would be my pick - more natural and very eas...
Sistrum Platforms Esb - the purveyors of Sistrum gear have sullied their reputation here through shameless and deceitful self-promotion on this forum. Hence I have reservations and perhaps a bias.Having tried their product I can say that I thought the sound was dec...
Coupling or isolating floorstan. to the floor? Stuff the theory. Having tried spikes, cones, roller-bearings, Vibrapods extensively, the best answer IMO is to use brass spikes. With a hard floor you can use brass cups under the spikes. Steel spikes into brass cups is OK.There have been times w...
personal experiences with quaility preamps... At $3k, I wouldn't bother with separates and would plump for something like the Plinius 8200. Get a great deal and buy it from NZ at way below the US price.
Isolation Sand Boxes Hi Buckingham. Yes the sand boxes do such the life out. Personally, I believe you are right to try the #4s than the #3s, but my preference with BD Cones was 2 #4s and 1 #3. Another option, which is possibly better with a timber and MDF rack, is th...
Isolation Sand Boxes You will undoubtedly change the sound by putting a CD player on a sand-box. Whether or not it is an improvement depends on how bad the previous support was. Now that you have discovered how important vibration control is, you will hopefully look a... |
