Digital Audio Receiver… the “new” transport The squeezebox is excellent. I highly recommend it. Wired lan connection sounds better than wifi. Interposing a jensen transformer improves it more. I use it with fllu wav files but using flac lossless compression. Am yet to try a worthy dac on it.
Experiences with SlimDevices Squeezebox. Yes. The sound quality was so promising I have played around with a few different permutations. Cheap DACs do not improve it. But the cheapest fix that really improved the sound was to put a Jensen Transformer between the audio outputs and my ampl...
Do not use stock jumpers tweeter first sounds better to me too
Do not use stock jumpers Yes Drubin, they do sound different. In theory, taking the grounds of both drivers back to the amp ought to be superior. But for some reason (the desire to sell more cable perhaps) there is a craze that appears to have begun in the USA to use two ...
Warm sounding cables - non fatiguing The one that does it for me at a good price Stehno is the Luminous Synchestra Reference - fast and weighty bass, full mids and the highs in the right place - no bloat, no grain, very transparent and fast - and outstanding dynamics across the spect...
Do not use stock jumpers Fine by me, but just one point, I had the local importer do the mod and he stands behind the warranty. It just makes sense.
Warm sounding cables - non fatiguing I do not have experience with your cables, but my advice is bite the bullet and change your components. My experience with "warm" or forgiving cables is that they invariably rob the music of life - and I do include Audience cables in that claim. W...
Do not use stock jumpers Unfortunately they are far from the best Infinity. I agree that internally joining the connections is vastly better, and argue that there is no reason why this cannot be done by a professional technician at lower cost than jumpers. For those of yo...
How far can I run a signal from a Cartridge. The other sound issue that I would expect is an increase in grain.
Aragon versus Krell I agree with Kennyt. The Aragons have a peculiar grain (sounds wiry) in the upper-mid that detracts from tonal colours throughout the mid-range compared with better amps. But the larger B&Ws tend to need the high damping factor of speakers lik...
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive? a real audiophile would take the bus
Best drink while listening to your rig? Red wine or single malt scotch.
Integrated amp for Grand Piano Nicolae has a point. However, I would try the Perreaux Radiance integrated - which has crisp leading edges without any grit, grain or brightness. It has plenty of power and a very high damping factor that ensures the rhythm of the music is not lost.
Your ''best kept secret'' speaker choice ? The best kept secret for me is that some very unlikely speakers can inexplicably sound wonderful in a listening room through sheer synergy. For example, the last time I had this reinforced to me was when some Chario Academy 1 speakers came my way ...
Best big screen for under $4000.00 I have gone the projector route too, for many of the reasons expressed above. Additionally it means I do not have a horrible piece of plastic and glass between the speakers and ruining the aesthetics of the room. I went for LCD simply because I co... |
