Sound when volume off
Or a noisy output stage, which comes after the pot but before the mute (wich is the normal arrangement).
Senior Audiophiles - Audiophile since the 60-70's?
I have been doing this since the 70s. I am constantly exploring new music, and always upgrading the system. I do have some affection for the big juicy sound of some of the 80s MC cartridges and turntables, with big class A amps, but today's stuff ...
Gallo reference /TAS vs Me
That shouty quality usually occurs due to flutter echo, which comes from two parallel reflective surfaces in the room. If it is the side walls, or the ceiling/floor, then placing speakers in the room that have wider dispersion than previous speake...
best DAC for PC server
I have been on a similar quest, and use the digital feed out of a Squeezebox, which is not too bad. Feeding it directly into a Northstar DAC, one can still hear the effects of poor jitter performance, such that a decent transport is definitely bet...
help converting EAC files to FLAC
You will get better jitter performance with a wired connection to your Squeezebox, than using wireless, and your wireless connection will have to be pretty good to stream wav files. If it must be wireless, get a booster transmitter and a powerful ...
Do the Jeff Rowland 201 amplifiers have warmth?
So what is the local power cord Murray?
ATT / ST Optical Cable?????
Every ATT cable I tried sounded different. In the end I found I had to buy an audiophile one, maybe terminated better, or perhaps they spent the time finding out what cable sounded better? Don't know, but the Audioquest Optilink Pro sounded fast s...

Biwired Speakers - silver for high, copper for low
Tom - reading your post, I would try Luminous Synchestra Signature speaker cables, and the Luminous Synchestra Reference ICs. I have both the Luminous and Poiemas here at the moment - both fully run in and if the Poiema lacks energy and dynamics t...
Experiences with SlimDevices Squeezebox.
It looks like the real deal to me. But sadly they will not ship internationally (unless you count Canada), so I miss out.
Experiences with SlimDevices Squeezebox.
lol - i often do the same in front of the stereo i must admit - usually buying something on a'gon
Experiences with SlimDevices Squeezebox.
The principal reason I raise the Black Gates point is that I had a local guy who is pretty experienced with CDP mods look at the squeezebox and his opinion was replacing a few caps with Black Gates and improving the diodes was going to be more ben...
Experiences with SlimDevices Squeezebox.
Dmitrydr: Have a look at the squeezebox site. The squeezebox was apparently developed in consultation with an audiophile club of some sort.Harry is right that you can get good sound out of it if hard wired. The latest software and firmware upgrade...
Why do digital cables sound different?
I have a question for the engineers here. When playing around with cables I found something odd. Let me give you an example. If I used a particular belden cable design, albeit in different guages, using all teflon insulation and silver coated copp...
Standing vs. Seated-Big Difference in Bass???
I agree it is a problem, but I believe you can get good bass from those speakers when only 18 inches from the back wall. The measurement to the back wall is just one measurement. There are several others to be played with. You ought to also think ...
