Esoteric DV-50: Any cdp's Significantly better?
Alex, I think you are a really talented technician. With excellent hearing skills. Like many of us, I am very frustrated deciding on a source component. And, at this "mature" stage in my audiophile life, I have burned way too much cash. No longer ...
Esoteric DV-50: Any cdp's Significantly better?
One of the main reasons I sold my DV-50 was due to the bass. I found it to be ill defined, and up several db from what is on the recording. Flat frequency response is what I look for in a source component. The APL Denon having "the same bass as DV...
Esoteric DV-50: Any cdp's Significantly better?
I think it's time for APL to change his business model. Taking a 5,500 machine, gutting it- and then completely "rebuilding" it? Would anyone actually fall prey to that logic. Here is what does make sence. Contract with a company in China to have ...
Is anyone out there using the Lector 0.5T?
I wanted to hear one at my local dealer. But it keep skipping on every cd. Now this could just be an isloated issue. But as noted above, the transport is of "questionable" suitability.

I could never listen thru a single ended pre-amp. Single ended source hooked to a balanced pre-amp can be ok though, depending on the design. Phono stages, for example- not much choice there. Balanced cd playback often helps free the medium from t...
How Good Can Digital Get?
I think your on a roll Newbee. Not so "new" in your advice. Keep it commin'.
Biasing Classe power amps
I'm very pleased to hear this news LUNA. "And then using hearing for fine tuning the center balance". Yes, in fact this is the only way to achieve "in home" results. This is one reason that drove me to take matters into my own hands. From the fact...
Audio Research vs YBA
I have owned the ARC LS25 mk1 and mk2. Avoid the mk2. Been using a Cary SLP-2002, which in my system is about 30% "better" than the AR MK1. YMMV
Snell Type CV comments?
One other thing. When your at the back plate, rewire the terminals inside. Run the highs/lows off of one tap. Bi-wiring IMO, always leads to a clouded/closed in sound with less bass control. In other words, do not bi-wire these. Nor should jumpers...
Snell Type CV comments?
Rayhall, bypass the fuse and attenuator knob on the rear. Install a (1) ohm resistor in that position. The CV is one of the most neutral and transparent speakers you may ever hear. Put some poly stuffing in the subwoofer section and experiment wit...
DV-50s vs Krell SACD Standard vs Denon 3910 mod
Doesn't Meridian make an all digital system, including active loudspeakers. I think those speakers take a digital input. Check it out. That might be King.
Esoteric DV-50: Any cdp's Significantly better?
Thanks. I wish that the APL was available for in home audition. I'm looking to buy something right now. Was wondering- Did you ever listen to the Krell SACD standard. About 6 weeks off for the new version. Anyway, I guess an inexpensive back-up pl...
Esoteric DV-50: Any cdp's Significantly better?
Question about the bass performance of the APL 3910. I did not see any description of this aspect of playback. The APL is apparently very open, dimensional and holographic. That is expected when listening to a high-end tube signal. Is the bass dee...
Audio Research 150.2...how does it sound
Completely disagree with the above post. YMMV.
DAC that beat Mark levinson 360s ??
Many 24/192 DACS are delta-sigma conversion. You will give up some dynamics for sure.
