Soaking in pause mode improves CD transport snd? It is a real phenomenon, sometimes called "jogging" the laser. You can do it quickly, as Pbowne mentioned. Check the Magnan website, they have a short discussion of this and other tweaks.
SACD is it worth it? I agree with Kal, though my feeling is that if you listen principally to pop the SACD option might be rarely used and therefor might be an unnecessary expense (classical is, fortunately for me, another story). A player like the new Cary SACD playe...
Any experience with Krell KRS-2 6-chasis version You should ask Krell. My recollection, which is hazy, is that the KRS-2 was a two chassis preamp (separate power supply). About $4500, list, when it was new in the late 80s (I got an ARC SP-11 instead of the Krell at the time).
Cheap amp $300 to use with Vandersteen 2ces Actually, I have liked the sound I heard using older Rotel amps on those Vandersteens, and that would have been my suggestion in that price range. Forget "what you've been told", you've used a Rotel with those speakers, what do YOUR ears tell you?
Could some one explain how to buy best cables? The above generally is good advice. Except perhaps within a manufacturer's lines of cables, there rarely is a hard and fast correlation between price and quality of a cable--there are giant-killers out there and there are giants too. Your JOR (I w...
What's the deal with the Machina Dynamica Clock? Watch out with the puns, Mdhoover, you may be "ticking" some people off!
Do tube dampers improve sound? I have found that the very heavy brass tube dampers that Andy Bouwman of Vintage Tube Services sells make an audible and positive difference in the EF 86 tubes in my preamplifier, better focus of images being the primary benefit.
What's the deal with the Machina Dynamica Clock? Hey, if you're in the Northern NJ area on December 4, come on down and have a listen!
What's the deal with the Machina Dynamica Clock? Mdhoover--ouch, loved the puns! My initial plan is to have two people leave the house after everyone has listened with the clock as a benchmark, one with the clock and one without, and no one knows which of those two has the clock, then have them ...
new updates in transports or are they obsolete ? Audioengr: I really am computer illiterate, so I only have a basic idea how this works. You had said in an earlier post that the hard drive would capture the transport's delicate "signature", I had assumed that meant that if I used the Forsell as ...
What's the deal with the Machina Dynamica Clock? Well, for the hell of it I got one to probably use as one of the door prizes for our NJAS holiday party next week. I've had a number of changes at once in my system recently involving my speaker crossovers, and my wife refuses to take the clock ou...
new updates in transports or are they obsolete ? Kenn 39, I agree with your thinking in theory; I have no idea how Peter Forsell did it, and it certainly doesn't make any sense to me as to how it could happen either, but his transport consistently has had more of the analog-like "bloom" with ind...
new updates in transports or are they obsolete ? Interesting comments by Mikesinger. I recently bought a small Yamaha hard drive type unit because I too would like to relieve some of the clutter caused by my CD collection. I'm about to start putting most of my choral CDs (many of which I listen ...
Organ CDs with really deep bass The RR CD "Felix Hell--Organ Sensation" has a number of pieces where he uses the full 32 foot stops--tremendous bass. Try the Guillmant and Vierne pieces--the bass goes well below 32Hz, probably down in the high teens, low 20s. Not a particularly ...
3 great choices Given your musical priorities, I'd suggest the VAC you mentioned, a Jadis JPL or a Lamm LL2 Deluxe, depending on your price range. |
