Plasma owners any problems??
I've been very happy with my Marantz, and I had the same concerns you did when buying it. No problems at all. Only "problem" is that HD material looks so good, when you switch to a plain digital source it suffers in comparison, and analog stations...
Jadis Orchestra Reference + Wilsons
Thanks for the report, and I'm glad to see you're enjoying your JOR!
Notice how many SACD collections for sale?
I just heard the Cary last night at an NJAS meeting, where Dennis Had spoke with us at length about it. It's quite an accomplishment. I still like my heavily modified Sony SCD 777ES at least as much, though I do want to hear them side by side, it ...
Is Soliloquy out of business????
I believe the answer is yes, unfortunately. Check the archives, there is a thread on it. Also one about replacement drivers for them, which was just revived today.
Are you open minded about loudspeaker designs?
Well, Plato, I'm not averse to a ribbon tweeter (the Analysis Plus speakers I heard at a recent meeting were very interesting), but as you know I do need my dynamics and deep bass response!!
Are you open minded about loudspeaker designs?
Considering I went from Thiels to Duntechs (both first order crossover designs and sealed boxes) to my current speakers, which are as different from those designs and unconventional as they come (four-piece, fourth order crossover to woofers, port...
Bosendoefer speakers
Unusual thing about Bosendoerfer pianos is that they have extra bass note extension, at least on some of their models. Do their speakers claim to have that kind of bass extension as well?
Manly Steelhead - any downside??
Lamm LP2, if you don't have a really low-output cartridge (it only has 57db of gain), might be more along those lines, or sell the phono and line stage and get a Jadis JP80MC, put some nice NOS Amperex BBs or Telefunken Ccas in the phono section a...
Affordable Power for Thiel CS 2.0s
I would also echo the use of the CJ solid state (Motif and MF series), as the others have, I should have mentioned them earlier. And if you can get one of CJ's earlier Premiere tubed amps, you might not care about some slightly weaker bass!Unsound...
Notice how many SACD collections for sale?
I guess you could say the same thing about DVD-A, except there's not as many people with collections to sell so it's not so noticeable. :~)While I think the hi-rez medium isn't likely to replace the CD, either as SACD or DVD-A, I'm very happy to k...
Does Lamm L1 sounds as sweet as Lamm LL2 ???
Steve, I thought you said in another recent post you were buying an LS-5? What gives?Since no one else has posted yet, I'll post some analogous impressions. I have not listened to an L1 at any length, but have listened to its successor, the L2 (wh...
What's the difference between LS series, SP series
Well, a line stage is often called a preamplifier these days, so that's part of the confusion. In the days when vinyl was the primary source, a preamplifier used to always include both a line stage (to handle line-level sources such as a tuner, CD...
Affordable Power for Thiel CS 2.0s
I would guess you like the tube sound but need a bit more power. If you can find an ARC D100.2 (their solid state amplifier, now replaced by the 150.2), I think it would be a good match for the Thiels. I used an NAD 2200 with Thiel CS-3s for a whi...
New book on "Audio, Acoustics and Perception"
Thanks, Duke, for sharing this with us, it's something I've always wanted to see.
What's the difference between LS series, SP series
That is the difference. LS=line stage; SP=stereo preamplifier. PH=phono preamplifier, too.
