future of 2 channel CD sound I doubt it. We had our chance with SACD and DVD-A and didn't have the numbers to (or just plain didn't) make those formats a success. Why would a manufacturer waste further time and money trying to mine a market already found to be unresponsive?
Cat owner wants speakers Chain a large, viscious dog between your speakers. That will give you more speaker options and won't interfere with the imaging either. Better make the dog a mute, though, so it doesn't interfere with your listening pleasure.
Whats on your turntable tonight? A friend of mine gave me a bunch of LPs on the condition that I transfer them to my music server and burn him some CDs. So it may come as a surprise to those of you who know my classical tastes, but the first few evenings of this undertaking have ...
most difficult speaker to please The original Thiel CS5 was also a very difficult speaker to drive. Scintillas do seem to be the toughest, though.
most difficult speaker to please Along with the two above, mbl 101s, notoriously power hungry. As far as placement goes, I've been lucky, the speakers I've owned have been pretty easy to place, which is the reason I picked them, not having a dedicated listening room.
Best mastered recordings Craig--what I find interesting, and it shows how different people hear things, is that it seems you preferred the DG recording, where I have rarely liked their recordings. I will admit, though, that they do make musically involving recordings on o...
Best mastered recordings I agree with Kal in that there is no way that you can say that the recordings involved are the same recording, but would like to point out at least one thing in general. Each of the recording companies mentioned has different recording philosophie...
Good turntables w/o record clamps Roksan Xerxes (at least the earlier ones) and Linn TTs don't use clamps. The Xerxes is a very fine table, even in its earliest versions.
Angriest Lyric/Vocal Back in my day, Dylan's Positively Fourth Street was an angry response by Mr. Dylan to those who criticised him leaving his folk roots to "go electric".
What's the deal with the Machina Dynamica Clock? Heavens to Murgatroid!! I'm not toatally sure, but I think that your tongue is firmly planted in your cheek?
Mercury Living Presence On the Harmonia Mundi recordings, Linn did a ReKut record of the Corelli Concerti Grossi 1-6, a superb recording from that series by McGegan and the Philharmonia Baroque.
Mercury Living Presence Nice to hear from you again, Detlof. I know I'm preaching to the choir with you and Rush!
Mercury Living Presence Mapman--what you state is certainly the case with pop recordings, which are compressed so they will sound good on the radio. Most classical labels have less compression issues, unless you listen to them on your radio, in which case the radio stati...
Mercury Living Presence White and Shaded Dogs refer to the labels on the RCA Living Stereo recordings from back in the 50s and early 60s. Both of the dogs were white, actually, but a Shaded Dog was a dog on a shaded background, while the White Dog is a dog on the plain r...
Mercury Living Presence In response to Mapman's question, not sure if you're referring more to the simple mike placement, but perhaps Telarc, in its pre-multi-channel days, was close to a mainstream record company using a fairly simple miking technique (spaced omnis as t... |
