Thiel 2.7 VS 3.7??? Seems to me that you have both enough room and amplification for the 3.7s. I agree with Vhiner about the sub, the Thiel sub would be the way to go if you take that choice.Since no one has mentioned it yet, again I'll venture a guess based on my pa...
Thiel 2.7 VS 3.7??? While I have not heard either of these Thiel models, there are a lot of Thiel owners on the forums, so I'm sure they'll chime in. The one observation I'll make is some of this will depend on the size of your room; if it's smaller, the 3.7s might n...
Hi Fi Dealer in New York City? One other dealer I forgot to mention, right across from Manhattan in Jersey City, is Audio Doctor, which has a very large selection of gear in all price ranges, some of which you might not be able to find in the other stores I mentioned. Their sho...
Hi Fi Dealer in New York City? If you really can't make it to Verona to Audio Connection (and John's place is not really near a railroad station, though you might be able to take a DeCamp bus from the Port Authority there), you might check out Innovative Audio. My visits there ...
Wilson Maxx 3 Agree with Jfrech. If you have a chance, hear them in a system, you'll know right away if the Wilson "house sound" is right for you. They do require a good deal of care in their set-up, but when done right they are excellent speakers.
Receiver The NADs mentioned do have pre-out jacks, so they should have active preamps (they were designed so you could upgrade your amplifier to one of NAD's amplifiers, like the 2200 I used. I owned a 7240, and it was a very nice receiver. Much more dynam...
Best Speaker for classical music In addition to the others mentioned (particularly Shahinian and Wilson), I'd add the larger Duntech and Dunlavy speakers, depending on the size of your room. Nearfield Acoustics Pipedreams also sound great with classical music. These latter three ...
Preamp with Tone Control Recommendations .... If you could afford a D'agostino preamp, look for a used Cello Audio Palette or Audio Suite, those might give you the flexibility you'd want. Not easy to find used, though.
Great films where music is a central theme. I think the movie Dead Again (Brannaugh/Thompson when they were still together) might qualify, I think that a Rachmaninoff piano concerto was central to that film. And I second Viridian with Fantasia.
EMM Labs CDSA SE vs DCS Puccini While I love the EMM Labs players, I agree with Jon 2020 on his point about the Philips transports. The CDSA, and the CDSD transport, have had some reliability problems (my transport initially had problems, and the same with a friend's CDSA), and ...
Seeking Ten Years After song 10 years after Elvis hit the scene, though there are alternative theories.
Audiophile Staff I'm afraid I've never had to think about such problems...The first poster does have it right, judging from his articles now and from the past Harry Pearson has always had someone to help him with setting up and maintaining his systems.
good preamp for dynaco mk3 monoblocks with maggies I think I'm the guy who bought the Promethius that was listed on A-gon. This one has one volume pot, though as Brownsfan states I believe there is a model with two (they are stepped attenuators, so you can play with balance by counting the clicks,...
Most achingly-beautiful music Agree with Barrysandy, Moravec's Chopin recorded performances are something special. Newbee, thanks for the recommendation for the Brahms, I'll add that to the others I have.
PSB or stick with vintage ADS Agree with Frogman, don't be fooled by advertising hype. You indicated you could get an in-home audition, that is the best way to go if you'd like to see what the PSBs have to offer. |
