VAC 160iSE integrated with NOLA speakers It would be nice if he could do that for my Phi 200, but I wonder if that's possible.
Quicken the burn in time for new speakers by using a cheaper SS amp? Agree with Rich. Also, the Yamaha might not be up to handling the load presented by your new speakers, depending on what they are. What are the speakers? If they have an impedance of 4 ohms or less, can the Yamaha handle that without breaking d...
Where do you guys buy tubes? On seeing what you want and what it's for, I second Ghosthouse in suggesting that you get them from ARC.
Where do you guys buy tubes? Andy Bouwman's Vintage Tube Services, for NOS tubes.
Acarian Alon II verse Triangle Celeus 202? Back in the time when the Alon II first came out I sent three people to my dealer to audition them, along with some other fine speakers (such as Dunlavys), for their first high end system. All three of them bought the Alons with an Acurus DIA amp...
$16K new/used speaker question? I think your amps are more than up to driving Wilsons; ARC VT 100s worked very nicely on a pair of WP7s that I heard a few years back. I had a friend who used a VK-75 to drive Von Schweikert VR4 speakers easily, that was a nice match.
need balanced tube preamp used Not sure what you mean by "brum" noise--are you sure it's from the preamp and not the amp's transformer? If you're talking just about noisy tubes in the preamp, maybe changing the tubes will eliminate the noise. If you really want a balanced pre...
Anyone change record clamp on Basis 2800 turntable? Leave well enough alone. Others don't hold the seal for the vacuum well enough, and you use a clamp to hold a record flat, which is what your vacuum does.
Shostakivich Symphony No 5 On CD, not sure if it's still in print, but Rostropovich and the National Symphony on Teldec is an excellent version, probably my favorite. On vinyl, the Mercury recording with Skrowaczewski and the Minneapolis Symphony is pretty good, though per...
What is best turntable for listening to Rock from the sixties like Led Zeppelin? Wolf, I almost got that system, went for a Benjamin all-in-one unit instead that I could bring with me to college. I think if you want to hear these sorts of albums the way you remember them from the 60s you really ought to get one of the Sony/Te...
Esoteric SACD Titles They're just too expensive for me to really have an interest in them, no matter how good they sound.
Suggest affordable cable options +1 to Cz's post. While there are a number of good suggestions for inexpensive cables above, the ones you have are pretty good for the system you have as well. If you want to change flavors, fine, do it as Wolf suggests buying used, but I'd stay ...
TRANSFORMER FOR JAPANESE DOMESTIC EQUIPMENT Honeybee, I think gs5556 was referring to the power transformers in your equipment. Perhaps the manufacturers can tell you if the conversion can be made in the equipment, either by them or yourself.
Active Subwoofer Crossover Glad to hear about your decision. Keep experimenting with the crossover frequency. 80 Hz was really just a starting point, as you discovered. Room nodes may also play a part in where you finally end up.
Help me identify Kimber speaker cable I think it's the 4TC speaker cable. They had 4 and 8 strand versions of this; their less expensive ones were used a different insulation (pvc, I think) and were grey and black. A nice, simple copper wire that worked pretty well. |
