MERCURY LIVING PRESENCE
Also with respect to the second post by the quick-fingered Mr. Campbell, the series he's referring to is in TAS, a series of articles by Sid Marks, I believe.
MERCURY LIVING PRESENCE
Sdcampbell, you are pretty quick with the keyboard! Excellent post! I should point out for Honda's benefit, if he didn't know, that you can (unless they're all sold out) get a few of the Mercs and many of the RCA's as reissued by Classic Records, ...
MERCURY LIVING PRESENCE
My original Mercs that I own have purple (plum?) center labels. The value of the Mercs depends on the pressing (not just whether it's an original issue vs. a generally less desireable Golden Imports reissue, but also the stamper number, such as an...
Essential Classical
Kitch, thanks for the suggestion, I'll go looking for it (not all versions of the Berlioz use the coronets, so that's my excuse for another version in my collection). Sir Colin and the Concertgebouw (sp., I'm sure) made a terrific Stravinsky balle...
true 24/96 digital output
Abstract 7 is correct. One thing to remember, and he touched on it, is that you're NOT talking here about DVD-Audio discs, which are not designed at this point to allow a 24/96 digital signal to be output--with them, you are stuck with the DVD-A p...
Recordings to die for - R R only
I'll start you off with Dire Straits' Love Over Gold; a classic audiophile quality rock recording--plenty of apparent depth, instruments all over the place, little sound effects (breaking glass, doors opening, etc.), plus terrific guitar work. The...

RCPrince can no longer repond, having died of envy. You will hear from our lawyers.--Estate of RCPrince :>)
Applause: Bummer
In response to Sugarbrie, I nominate the applause track from the Stakatto disc from way back (the one with various instruments and, my favorite, the crystal glassware being thrown against the wall). A couple of minutes of a huge ovation--just what...
Best Thread in Audiogon.
Along with the ones mentioned above, I'm a big fan of the "Most Achingly Beautiful Music" and other threads talking about best performances of musical pieces; a lot of information and suggestions I've enjoyed tremendously. Also the Music Trivia an...
SACD software prices are dropping.
I recall reading a long time back in one of the rags that the strategy on pricing these discs was to be starting at $25, then lowering it as the format took hold. This is good news; now let's get some more new recordings out there!
Music trivia anyone?
Here's an obscure one--what is the real name of Terry Cashman (of Cashman, Pistilli and West and "Mickey, Willie and the Babe" fame)?
Music trivia anyone?
Albert, I believe it was Cindi Lauper who did the music on Peewee's Playhouse? And Bluenose, I'm guessing 5 consecutive top 10's for the DC5?
Best Tuner under 500?
I think the NAD 4300 was an AM/FM tuner, an excellent sounding tuner for FM and inexpensive on the used market. The AM sections of many high-end tuners are not that great, though, and Hpk makes a good point about electrical noise; I never used my ...

Telemoli--I gotta know too--don't tell me you use the Vs for surrounds or we'll all die of envy!!!
SACD Going Mainstream?
Metaphysics, yes, but there are multichannel SACDs already out and Sony and Phillips are releasing multichannel players (or have already done so). Ears is right, it looks like this may be the hook that Sony/Phillips will use to lure the masses int...
