Celibidache on DG or EMI? Adding my two cents, the EMI recordings are excellent, far better than the DGs I have heard. EMI may multi-mike a bit, but never as much or as badly, in my view, as DG. The live performances add greatly to the emotional involvement that comes thro...
Sony 777es ok to leave on? Onhwy61 and Elizabeth are correct. I leave mine on all the time, with only good results.
Sony SCD-777ES availability? Dave, the above posts are correct, the 777ES has been discontinued, replaced by a front loading multi-channel player. You can look for used ones (someone in this month's 'Phile was selling one for $1500, doubt if it's still available) or get an SC...
Latest comments on PS Audio PP? Homosapien--one thing you might want to try is repositioning your speakers, if only just a little. I wound up doing so when I first put in the Ultimate Outlet, as I had thought that while the outlet made some improvements, there were some unusual ...
What to do with free soundproofing? Sedond's advice is good; you might also consider making the foam into small corner tunes-type triangles for the upper corners of the room. Be careful not to overdamp the room, however--trial and error is the best method here, but having reflective...
scd 777es sacd sony mod worth it? Actually, Mes, I pretty much did that before I decided to go with the mod. After breaking in the Sony, I felt that, while it was very good, I wasn't getting quite the resolution and life I got from my admittedly more expensive Forsell/Audio Logic ...
KT88 s Sovtek vs Valve Art Redkiwi, the KT88s I got were my present to myself on having my son graduate from college. Had to do something with the money I'd otherwise be spending on tuition, you know! On Sovtek vs. Svetlana, I agree that the Svetlanas are the best of the 65...
KT88 s Sovtek vs Valve Art Albert, Cameron asked if she could come to the barbeque at your place?
KT88 s Sovtek vs Valve Art Not too much I can add to the other fine posts, except that I cannot emphasize how much better the old NOS MO Valve and Genalex Gold Lion/Gold Monarch KT 88 tubes are, at least in my equipment and my experience. They are terribly, terribly expensi...
SACD s to die for --Mahler Symphony No. 2, on Delos, a 20 bit pcm recording that still sounds superb; also, the latest Delos SACD release with the Shostakovich String Symphony is also excellent--Audioquest Blues Sampler--the Lyrinx recording of Musique Francais for...
Room correction in high-end system??? Metaphysics, I'm in pretty much the same boat as you. I'm hoping that at some point dCS will put the room correction capability into their Purcell (which I have) so I could see what it does to the digital side of my system without a large cash out...
scd 777es sacd sony mod worth it? Detloff, ya shoulda contacted me, I would've given you Jerry's number; hope the Audience mod is to your liking, it's gotten good feedback. I had the same feelings about the 777ES, that's why I went for my mod; it was nice sounding but lacked that ...
For You: THE most imprortant element... I'm with Greg and Detlof--the most important thing to me in my system and the equipment I choose is to let the emotion of the performance and the music through. I'm willing to sacrifice some detail (but not a correct tonal balance) to get that.
Multiple Copies Of LP s Same Title Thank you, gentlemen. Sorry for going off topic as well.
Multiple Copies Of LP s Same Title Detlof, my firm used to have an office in Budapest, wish I'd known of the shop, I would've visited. Since I'm going to be in Prague and Vienna the beginning of June, any suggestions on good record stores there? |
