So much Bach, where do I start?
I'll put in a plug for Christopher Herrick's Bach organ works cycle on Hyperion, well-recorded for the most part and well registered and played. I had the pleasure of meeting Christopher (he stayed at my home for a few days during an AGO workshop ...
SACD quest
The HMV website sells most of them for $18 and change, as they price in Canadian dollars and we in the US get to take advantage of that. Elusive Disc has a 10% off sale this month on-line, but even with that they can't match HMV.
How many DVDs/CDs/LPs do you own?
I guess about 1600+ LPs (I sold a bunch back when I was in college, a move I regret today), 1200+ CDs, 9 DADs (I'm not into video, these are the 24/96 discs) and 30+ SACDs and growing. Vegasears, that is one of the saddest LP stories I've ever heard!
Basis 2500 vs Debut vs 2800
Since no one else is responding, I can chime in, but only by analogy. I have heard both the Basis Debut (a while back; not the Mk 5) and 2500, and own an Ovation. In my view, the Debut and the Ovation both have overall better isolation systems tha...
DVD Audio vs SACD?
Rdr4b, there are multichannel SACDs out there now, as I think Sony saw the light and realized that might be the way to get consumers to go for a format other than CD. The dmp and recent Delos releases are 6-channel discs, for example. In answer to...
Mark Levinson 39
Lev335, my understanding from Madrigal's website is that the No. 39 embodies a No. 380 preamplifier in it as its volume control. As such, it would seem unnecessary, and probably redundant, to use it with the No. 38 preamp, which is an earlier mode...
How important...
While I agree with all of the above posts (especially Sdcampbell!), I think that the crossover frequency plays an important part as well. If your crossover frequency to the subs were, say, 40 hz, you might not need an amplifier that is as sonicall...
music you cant live without
Kitch29, I've got the original Merc with Janis playing the 3rd, it is excellent, also very good on the CD transfer. I have always liked Gilels, I'm hoping that Classic reissues his Brahms 2, which was a Mohr/Layton production released by RCA as a ...
music you cant live without
Shubertmaniac makes a good point. I've always liked Murray Perihia's CBS recording of the Schubert Impromptus, not for sonic reasons or necessarily for performance reasons, but because it is well-played and the first recording I ever heard of the ...
Music trivia anyone?
I don't think this is the one you're thinking of, but I recall he had a band Jimmy James and the Blue Flames before the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Same band?
What's your profession? Age?
50, corporate finance/business lawyer in NYC.
Music trivia anyone?
OK Albert, apparently Rod Stewart used to wear his wife's underwear back in the 70s, so cancel my prior guess.
Music trivia anyone?
Thank you Blbloom--I can probably get it from Glen Ridge, my tuner is excellent at picking up weak signals and I've got one of those motorized roof antennas to get the best signal available. Now if I don't sleep in on Thanksgiving...... Oh, and An...

Sedond, excellent, two points for you. I can't believe anyone ever did a cover of that song! Angela, as Kelly said, Alice's Restaurant is set at Thanksgiving (that's two years ago this Thanksgiving), so the stations picked it up. Back in high scho...

Cornfedboy, you type faster than I, that was my next guess as I thought about it.
