Threads worth reading! Perhaps the man's wife ran off with a speaker designer?
Loudness - Why has the industry stopped producing amplifiers with this feature any longer? I agree with twoleftears--I think that most of the industry went purist on us. I particularly miss balance controls, especially now that I've lost a lot of hearing in one ear.
Jadis ja-200 vs ja500 Well, not sure about the sensitivity and impedance figures for the ESPs (their website has no information about their models, from what I can see), but I'd say if you want that sense of ease the 500s might be your ticket. When I heard them they w...
How many NICE looking high end floor standing speaker are there at present Hey, if you listen in an Eames Chair, these should work well: https://www.davoneaudio.com/images/lounge/mid-century-modern-danish-design-lounge-ray-speaker.jpgOr if you aren't afraid to have the feeling someone's watching you:https://www.cabass...
Jadis ja-200 vs ja500 I agree with zipost; I felt the 200s had more finesse and character than the 500s, which were more a brute force amplifier. Plus, with the older Jadis you're looking at, the JA200s were auto-biasing and could use tubes other than 6550s, while I b...
How many NICE looking high end floor standing speaker are there at present Not sure what you consider to be nice-looking. Would a pair of fabric-covered room dividers suit your taste? Maggies would fill the bill there.
Jadis Defy can't sing with super high Fidelity PART 2 I haven't read the whole thread, but my recollection is that, unlike the old generation Jadis mono amps (JA30, 80 and 200), the original Defy 7 was not an autobiasing amp and could only use the 6550 tubes. To use other tube types in it, you (or, ...
Line Magnetic 518 + Piano, special? My old Jadis JA80s and Lamm ML1.1s and my current VAC Phi 200 all have that same effect. Gotta be the tubes!
Vandersteen 2c vs Thiel CS2 Back in the day when these two speakers were new, the conventional description of the principal difference between the two speakers was that the Vandersteens were darker in overall tonal balance (slightly tilted to the bass regions) and the Thiels...
Anyone with tinnitus or hearing loss who is into "high-end" audio? Coffee-jerk: I too had bouts of vertigo at the time that I lost a good deal of hearing in my left ear. That is a symptom of Meniere's disease, I believe. Had I caught it in time, my audiologist said I might have been able to stop some of the h...
Your "Best of..." audio manufacturer in each state Simao: I had only gone there since we were visiting a friend in Sarasota and I figured I'd pick up some tubes for my amp while I was there. They showed me one of those Statement 452s as it was being built, quite a beautiful piece of equipment.In...
Your "Best of..." audio manufacturer in each state NJ--VPINH--Basis AudioFL-VACTo the OP--I did visit VAC's place in Sarasota earlier this year. It is a warehouse full of parts, old and new units, and a lot of really sharp and nice people, not at all what I expected but impressive nonetheless. C...
Anyone with tinnitus or hearing loss who is into "high-end" audio? I have tinnitus and have also lost a significant amount of hearing in my left ear over the past year. I find that I am focused less on soundstaging these days than I used to be, but still can focus on timbre, correct frequency response and musica...
Lamm pre amp If you want tube rectification you could go for a Jadis JP 80 or 200 (both of which I have owned in the past), but I do not believe they have a remote. .
Lamm pre amp Having heard both in my old system, I think that another possibility would be a VAC Renaissance preamp, which does have a remote. The Lamm is a superb product; so is the VAC. |
