best possible indoor antenna The best indoor antenna I ever used, other than the TV antenna in the attic, was the Day Sequerra indoor antenna, easily besting everything else I tried. It wasn't as good as the attic-mounted Antenna or in the same league as the roof-mounted one ...
Anyone familiar with the Manger driver? If he doesn't respond, you might contact member Plato, who had a speaker using this driver in his home a few years ago.
Do I need an pre-out? Not sure if you can do both at once if they're separate, but if the Pathos has a tape loop, you could at least put one of them in there (tape out to crossover/EQ, then from that unit to tape in).
Which Audiologic dac was the first to go 24 bit? Tab110s--read my review of the transformer upgrade for my impressions. Curious to see how others feel about it.
Which Audiologic dac was the first to go 24 bit? I'll chime in:1. Isolation does make a difference with this DAC. I use a K-Works IsobaseK, and prior to that a Seismic Sink. Both made a big difference, as noted above.2. For tubes, I agree in the units without the transformer upgrade, the 12AU7s ...
Which Audiologic dac was the first to go 24 bit? The difference in sound was not really that much at all, and Jerry told me that before I made the switch; I only did it because I expected Classic Records to release a lot of great DADs (which they didn't) and because I liked the Purcell upsampler...
Which Audiologic dac was the first to go 24 bit? I think it was the 2400; I got a late model 34, and it had the 20-bit chips. Some of us upgraded our Model 34s to install the 24 bit chips.
Tube amp suggestions-Dunlavy IVA I agree with all of Raquel's suggestions, particularly the Lamms, which I own and find to be exceptional amplifiers and able to drive virtually anything out there. One more possibility is VTL, their amps, while not as smooth and refined as the one...
Choral or Classical Vocal Recordings - Must Have Please keep away from my smelly feet for this! Not too much help, but Shaw and his Chorale recorded for RCA in the old days, so you might start there. I just finished a concert recently where we sang that piece, and have sung it before, and have a...
What's The Best Blooming Tube Amp? Along with the SETs mentioned above, the Jadis amps, particularly the JA80s when used with either NOS Genelex Gold Lion KT88s or Mullard EL-34s, would match your description. You'll get lost in their midrange. And I imagine Quickslvers would too, ...
Any Audiophile recording of The Planets? Sonically the Mehta/LAPO on Decca is generally thought to be one of the best, particularly on vinyl--it's been on the TAS list for years. I think it's good, not great interpretively. I like the Previn, but could live without the Susskind (that's t...
What was your first music that you paid for? Shut Down by the Beach Boys, I think. Back in those days I principally bought 45s. Can't recall whether my first album was a Beach Boys one or Beatles '65.
Tweaks That Don't Work Two tweaks that did not work FOR ME (I'm sure many of you found them to work for for you, so take it easy):1. Shakti Stones--tried them on my Forsell transport, without effect, and on the transformers of my Jadis JA 80 amplifiers, negative effect,...
hilary hahn..violinist She's very gifted technically; needs a little more maturing in her interpretations, in my view (I was not moved by her Brahms, though I did like her Stravinsky), but she definitely has promise. I agree with Eric above, there are many fine young vi...
Sorry, need info on Dunlavy again Aletha vs SC-IV I still think the Alethas will overload your room--they have a smaller footprint and are a little more room friendly, but a square room like yours creates many acoustical resonances and nodes. I would follow Sean's advice from your prior post. Dun... |
