Levinson 23.5 or Rowland 7 MK3 amps
I'm going from long-term memory here, but they both sounded great with the right speakers. I heard the Levinson with Wilson speakers, sounded very good but didn't make me fall in love, I blame the Wilsons (earlier versions of Watt Puppies). The Ro...
Buy an Audio Research SP10 MkII or an SP11 MkII ?
One thing to note is that while the LS5 is a great product-I still like it better than virtually every line stage ARC has made because it has the tube-like qualities they seemed to move away from in the SP 11, SP 15 and LS 2 hybrid designs-and an ...
Buy an Audio Research SP10 MkII or an SP11 MkII ?
For the sound you're describing, Wendell is correct, the SP-10 is what you want--it has a very good phono stage too. The 11 is a hybrid design, and sounds more neutral but definitely more like solid state than tubes. If you want to spend more, a J...
ASC tube trap: which's reflect or absorb side?
Ramses' answer is my recollection with my old tube traps, which did not have the button Fmpnd mentions.
Jadis Defy 7
If no one else responds, I'd either contact Jadis directly via e-mail on their website (they have been helpful to me in the past) or, if you're in North America, perhaps Pierre Gabriel, the importer. Does your seller know how to bias the tubes?
Jadis Defy 7
I think you need to re-bias the amp to change the tube type, it's not like the mono amps (JA-30/80/200) which have an auto-bias and can accept various types of tubes without any adjustment. Can't tell you how to bias the amp, though.
Concert stage layout -- who made who?
Eldartford, I think Sean was trying to describe the arrangement of amps for a live concert, not a recording. I think you're right in that what a lot of small ensemble jazz recording producers are trying to do is to bring the ensemble into your liv...
Best used Krell two channel amp?
My favorite Krells in the past have been the original KSA 50MkII, followed by the KSA 150/250, along with the KSA80/200, their predecessors. The 50, 80 and 200 are all pure Class A designs, and after warmup can sound quite nice (for solid state); ...
Concert stage layout -- who made who?
Hell, one of my favorite "panning" tricks was in the original Blind Faith album, where Clapton's and Winwood's guitar solos in the middle of "Had to Cry Today" started in opposite channels, panned to be together in the middle and then crisscrossed...
Concert stage layout -- who made who?
I agree with Sean, there's an awful lot of panning of drumsets across the whole soundstage on a lot of recordings. More impact, I guess. I think Rockvirgo's explanation for this phenomenon is the most convincing I've heard!
Concert stage layout -- who made who?
Given recording techniques at the time that I saw when I was young and that you can see in pictures in some of the record jackets (for example, check the LA4's Pavanne album), the recording was made in a studio, and the soundstage you hear is in a...
Dynaudio Audience 52's for front channels .
I take it back, they make an on-wall version of the Audience 42, as well as an in-wall speaker, but it's not the 52. I liked the 42s, but after hearing the 52s felt they were worth the extra money.
Dynaudio Audience 52's for front channels .
I've bought these speakers for the fronts on my HT system (not yet installed), but I also bought stands for them to flank the cabinet which houses the electronics. The dealer felt they would be fine even on top of the cabinet if I got a longer cab...
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE
Triode: What speakers are you referring to? Your post doesn't say!! I think you may have put it into a heading, but that doesn't come through.
