What's wrong with classical music on vinyl?
Referring to an above post, perhaps it's more a function of the fact that classical music, with its many quiet passages, highlights surface noise, and perhaps Sufentanil is particularly bothered by it. I have been discussing this very issue with a...
Do Kimber KCAG's sound bright????
Good silver often gets the "bright" rap because it is typically more transparent than copper from the midrange up, and reveals grain and other shortcomings in mediocre upstream components that copper won't reveal. It also tends to take a lot longe...
CD players in $2K range with balanced output
You want new, but if you are willing to go used, the Audio Research CD-3 can be had for +/-$2,000. It is said to sound particularly good when run balanced. For whatever it's worth, here is the link to former Stereophile editor Wes Phillip's review...
Concerto pre-amp vs. the Synergy IIi
Barrelchief:You asked "Are you basing your comments of the Synergy IIi vs. Concerto on a head to head comparison that you have done?"No, I am basing the comment upon the fact that the Concerto is significantly less expensive than the Synergy IIi, ...
Concerto pre-amp vs. the Synergy IIi
The Concerto is a line-level only preamp, meaning it has no step-up transformer or phono stage of any kind in it. Rowland's Cadence phono preamplifier has a step-up transformer in it, should you need a phono stage with a step-up transformer. The be...
Jeff Rowland 201 or 501 for high current demands
I have heard that these amps are a good bit more dependent upon the quality of the power supply than amps with analog power supplies, i.e., if you intend to really push them, you need to make certain that the circuits they are on are not burdened ...

Cheap Backup Amp Needed
Bryston 3B-ST. Because of the 20 year warranty and fact it is a very well-known amp, it is like a commodity and thus can be flipped months later for what you paid for it (maybe more). It won't break and sounds really good (for what it is).
Audiogon and the Hi-Fi Mags
Fatparrot: "just an audio guy with an unusual moniker". Actually, my wife's name is Raquel. She was standing by the computer at the moment I needed to come up with a user name.Kleech: Hi Ken. Same to you! Thanks to all those who have responded.
Is the dunlavy SC-IV still worth to buy?
The Dunlavys are very good speakers and basically full-range. For the price, they are incredible. The only potential problem, as mentioned above, is their size, and the fact that the company is out of business. All of the drivers are easily replace...
Audible Illusions M3a owners tube life?
This subject was specifically addressed in a recent thread:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?aamps&1092946488&openfrom&1&4#1
Invert phase, ARC LS3 ?
Bbaxley2: To the extent I understand your question, no, the LS-3 and 3B were never upgraded. They can, however, be retrofitted with a remote control volume control for about $600.
Best monitors under $5,000/system combos
I have not heard it, but it is my understanding that the recently released Dynaudio C1 monitor is superior to the Special 25 and the best stand-mounted monitor speaker that Dynaudio has made. It costs more than the Special 25, but I do not know ho...
Invert phase, ARC LS3 ?
Nope, LS-3 does not invert phase. I've owned mine for ten years.
Whats the word on Jeff Rowland pre-amps?
I have not yet heard the 300 Series amps, but my guess is that they are supurb in the right systems. I am going to try to demo a 302 in my second system, which is currently amp-less (the last amps were Model 6's with batteries, which were incredib...
