Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever? I would say the RM10 is quite neutral and fast with the LSA, as described in the 6moons review. But, use it with a 6sn7 based active preamp, and use RCA 6sn7s and you might have a "tubier" flavor, but the amp itself seems neutral, with tube bloom ...
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever? Wilsynet, I'm glad you gave it a try. By the way, Clio9 is also using the LSA with the RM10MKII. Not sure if this is the reason why, but one reason I felt the compulsion to try a passive was the Roger Modjeski (Music Reference)told me to use a pas...
Looking for a new tube preamp I would not rule out the Mapletree mentioned above, do not let the $800 (with Blackgate caps)price fool you. This is a very well conceived product, and the fact that it can use 6sn7/12sn7 (same sound) allows you to get pricey RCA/Sylvanias at have...
Rawson Amps The question was asked by someone thinking of buying one, not a theoretical question. What seems odd is that Tim a strightup guy, yet he really seems to have done something to make Nelson Pass feel crossed. 1000s of threads questioning the ethics ...
which el 84 amp or integrated I wonder why the Mahi's would be much different that the Stingray, maybe simply being mono and likely to be used with an active preamp whereas the Stingray has a passive attenuator built-in. Either way, Manley does good work with EL84s, but I woul...
Best U.S. made integrated tube amp under $2500? "Do CJ and ARC make integrated amps?" ARC still does, CJ seems to have stopped, but you could find a CAV 50 used.http://www.audioresearch.com/VSi60.htmlhttp://www.conradjohnson.com/It_just_sounds_right/a-CAV50.html
Best U.S. made integrated tube amp under $2500? Might also might be able to hit that price point with CJ or ARC used.
Best U.S. made integrated tube amp under $2500? Hmmm. I would look into the Manley Stingray and the Rogue Cronus. I assume 40-50 tube watts is more than enough to drive the Dulcets. What I would buy for the price, and better than all of them in my opinion would be a Lightspeed Attenuator and Mu...
Vandersteen Subs 2W, 2Wq, etc. as LFE I second Bondmanp's experience, assessment, conclusion and his recall of Richard's placement intent.
which el 84 amp or integrated I stick with Roger's Ei Pre-war 12ax7 and think the Genalex Reissue EL84s are outstanding, better than Roger's Ei El84s or Sovtek EL84Ms IMHO.
Trusted tubemeisters Any experience with member aztubes?I've done business with Roger Modjeski, Andy VTS, Jim Sutter, Jim McShane, Brent Jesse and have not had a problem with any tubes from these folks.
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE Want to bet?:)
Some of the best pre amps used for $600 or less I never thought of the DeHavillands as underated - underpriced? perhaps - but I think they are pretty highly regarded, certainly by those that have heard them.
Designer Hall of Fame My sense of great design has little to do with manufacturing efficiency, which is a laudable trait, but not the sort of thing I meant by design, but rather original thinking related to circuit design - the sort of thinking that goes into Nelson Pa...
Speakers for 55 watts of EL-34 tube power ? The Vandersteen is a beautiful, well sorted speaker. As was established in the other Vandersteen thread, the 1C is both tube friendly and pretty sensitive so you should be fine with a 55watt amp, though whether the EL34 is ideal for VS is another ... |
