Joule 150A MKII versus Atma-sphere Preamps Thanks Franks, I'm coming to that conclusion. I want to enjoy some M-60s without having to carry two preamps. I've spoken to a few folks who have made me comfortable with the idea that the Joule will work very well indeed, even if unbalanced. Than...
Joule 150A MKII versus Atma-sphere Preamps My other issue beside design approach is whether or not the MP-3 is as inherently good a preamp as the Joule 150A MKII. I love the Joule after having experimented with CAT,Lamm, and Placette Active. So quiet or not, I just don't know if the MP-3 i...
A big thanks to Nelson Pass 1st watt Pass labs etc oops, CAT is going tomorrow. I'm going to try the Atma OTLs.
Joule 150A MKII versus Atma-sphere Preamps I do think it is the raison d'etre, but I'm not sure I could hear a difference based on the "quieter" potential of balanced operation. My system is pretty darn quiet. My quandry is that I don't want to own two preamps if I don't have to. I notice ...
Vandersteen 1c, and an integrated They YBA gear I have heard has been superb. Don't know about the particular stuff you are looking at, but they certainly have an excellent reputation.
845 SET? deHavilland / Art Audio/et..al. Well, I have sold the CAT JL2, and am now really focusing on the Art Audio Carissa and deHavilland 845-G for use with my Merlin VSMs. Would appreciate any additional thoughts as try to settle on one or the other. Am also considering an Atma-sphere...
Vandersteen 1c, and an integrated Well, if the RM10 can drive them, I'd say that is a pretty hard amp to beat anywhere near the price, and about as maintenance free as a tube amp can be. Small, cool running, and cheap to retube -- in many years.
A big thanks to Nelson Pass 1st watt Pass labs etc Tab110s, have you tried any SS amp with your Merlins that you were satisfied with?
A big thanks to Nelson Pass 1st watt Pass labs etc Certainly one of the 3-4 best SS designers for many years now. The new XA30.5 may just be his best sounding amp ever, I do wonder how it compares with the Aleph J as my speakers are very "tube" friendly in terms of impedance and sensitivity. Have ...
Vandersteen 1c, and an integrated Music Reference RM10 is a great little amp (I have owned the RM 10, RM 9 and now the RM 9 Special Edition). If the RM 10 can drive the VS it would indeed be a great, affordable set up, and I can vouch for the Pot-in-a-Box which I interchanged with...
Vandersteen 1c, and an integrated I'm a definitely in the tube camp, but I would discuss with Richard before going that route with the 1Cs. Most VS need a lot of tube power with current (not cheap) to shine in the bass region. I think the 1Cs have some nasty impedance dips in the ...
Vandersteen 2 help-which ones? Call Richard Vandersteen, he'll happy to answer your question and you'll have no doubt he is right.
Vandersteen 1c, and an integrated The 60 Watt Rotel integrated is a classic starter combo with the 1C within your price range. But your other choices seem to be good ones as well; I think you'll be ok with any of the one's you list, but might want to add Arcam for consideration.
Music Reference RM9 - user comments please Has anyone compared 6550 versus KT88 with the unit? They should be pretty similar, no?
Pass Labs xa - .5 amps I owned the Aleph 3 and 2 and I think the XA is more dynamic, and obviously so. I owned the Alephs so long ago that I can't say more about other specific comparisons, but the XAs are real current monsters and they have a lot of bass drive and pace... |
