Music Reference RM9 - user comments please Well I have had the Special Edition and it is a big step up from the MKII - not sure why as the output stage, layout, power supply all remain the same, but Roger completely redesigned the input drivers, making them point-to-point (no more boards) ...
Whats the best $1000 speakers I think the Vandersteens are an excellent choice at that price point, with decent, quality bass at the price and good imaging. It is the speaker I would buy if I were looking for a fairly full-range speaker in the sub$1000 category. I would stick ...
The best mini monitors you have heard? Has anyone who has heard the Magico Minis thought any other mini-monitor was better? I have not heard one. I heard them at the Stereophile show with VAC Phi integrated and that was surely the best monitor performance I ever heard - at a very steep...
tube friendly speaker rec A used Merlin TMX will be very tube friendly and is one of the finer sounding speakers in a smallish monitor configuration.
How well do you know your merlins? I have recently had a few "philes" come over to listen to my system using a Joule LA150 MKII and either a CAT JL2, Music Reference RM9 SE, or my Ars Sonum through my VSM-MXes; I can say, and I hope they were not just being flattering, that they co...
Designer Hall of Fame Dr. Floyd Toole at the National Research Council his contributions in the use of measurements in the design of equipment; making the work of many other designers better (3M).
Subwoofer: How low should I go? They are not gettign the full benefit of using a subwoofer; it still might make for a system that sounds better to the listener, especially if the mains are truly lacking below 50-60Hz (small monitors).
Subwoofer: How low should I go? Good point, if they don't relieve the mains, the benefit goes out the window. This approach to improving the sounds the mains worked in an obvious manner when I owned Vandersteen 3As and bought a pair of his power subs - the midrange improved in a...
fuses - the $39 ones or the 85 cent ones I bought the wunderkinds and if I could tell the difference or choose one as better I would be suprised. On the other hand, since I have expensive power cords, I bought them any way. I will say there are many other things I would do first before I...
Subwoofer: How low should I go? I think that Eldartford's explanation is one of the more important reasons to get a powered sub-woofer, it makes the main speakers perform much better; less IM distortion, and less stress on the amp.
how does rogue zeus compare cat or atma-sphere? Optarchie, what does/would the rest of your system look like?
Music Reference RM-200 I cannot comment directly on the RM200, but I have owned the RM9, RM10, and RM9SE. All I can say about Roger is that he one of our greatest designers, and if he built it you can bet it will be good and perhaps more importantly, be very reliable.
how does rogue zeus compare cat or atma-sphere? Jeff_jones, I agree with your general point that price does not equal quality, and there are many instances of that. In the case of CAT and Atma-sphere I would say that rule does not apply, they are expensive and they deliver SOTA amp performance ...
I Have 100K for Speakers? I don't think there is anything wrong with spending 100K on speakers if you have the money and you get 100k sound - even in terms of diminishing returns; I just don't think you need to spend that to get the best sound available with variations for...
Designer Hall of Fame Yes indeed, one of the greats. |
