Reliable Sources for 6SN7 Tubes
Does Roger (RAM) carry 6sn7s? If he did/does, you are unlikely to find better matched tubes (well Andy VTS too).
cat jl3 signatures vs. atmashere ma2III's
My Jl2 had some teflon boards, but not to the extent of Signature. I suspect the Signature improves on the JL2, but if you are not happy with the JL2 than you may never be happy, it is an incredible amp even before the "upgrade". I still think tha...
Designer Hall of Fame
Now that I have heard the Atma-sphere OTLs, I have to put Ralph Karsten's up in the top ranks. Not an amp for everyone, but if you can use and OTL with your speakers, pretty darn impressive. The Hall of Fame for taking a basicly wonderful sounding...
Solid State or Tube Preamp mated with Tube Monos?
What other preamps have you tried?
Balanced preamps with Atma-sphere MA-2's
On Ralph K's website he seems to suggest that there is not much difference between various types of balanced cables when used between his pre and amp. Your experience? It would be nice to buy some simple, well-made, inexpensive cables for a change...
Preamp Experiences with Atma-sphere Amps
Well, I've decided the only way is to try an MP-3. If it can sound better than the Joule, that would be pretty impressive and I'll use the Joule with the Music Reference.
Balanced preamps with Atma-sphere MA-2's
R f Sayles, did you choose the Aesthetix Calypso over the MP-3 after comparing the two, or hear the Aesthetix, loved it, and decided to go with it?
Preamp Experiences with Atma-sphere Amps
I owned the Placette Active for a year. Yes a great preamp, but I preferred the Joule. We are in the realm of great gear and personal taste.
Preamp Experiences with Atma-sphere Amps
I've been experimenting with a passive attenuator made by Music Reference and it sounds extremely good to me, I won't say how cheap it is. It is dead quiet, apparently dynamic, and plenty loud at the 3:00 position. I was suprised as the Atma amp i...
Preamp Experiences with Atma-sphere Amps
Mrderrick, or others, do you think the Atma pre works very well with the Atma amp, but might not be so strong with other amps? I real matter of synergy.
cat jl3 signatures vs. atmashere ma2III's
non-Signature. Both brands are fantastic. But, I think if you can eliminate transformers and still drive your speakers, it is hard to beat OYLs for transparency, clarity, speed, and presence. Given that, the CAT is very, very good in those areas, ...
cat jl3 signatures vs. atmashere ma2III's
Well, I've traded my CAT JL2s for Atma-sphere M-60s. Both are fantastic amps, but on my Merlins, which are OTL friendly, the OTLs are pure magic, I clearly prefer them in almost every way, though the nod has to go to the CAT on bass IMHO - not tha...
Question about set amps and low sensitivity spkrs
Newbee, I agree that a tube amp generally puts out the same power into different impedance loads of the speaker, but I'm talking about the output taps (4ohm, 8ohm etc.) of the amplifier. I thought that into the same loads, the 4ohm tap and the 8 o...
Question about set amps and low sensitivity spkrs
Tvad, I thought that was they way SS usually works, but not tubes (but I'm no expert).I know when I owned the RM10 Roger Modjeski said I would loose power if I used the 4 ohm tap versus the 8 ohm, but there were advantages in terms of dampening an...
Question about set amps and low sensitivity spkrs
Only problem with the 4ohm tap is that you are going to drop the wattage quite a bit - I think.
