Is this clipping?
Thinking more about recent digital rock recordings, seems to me that people make the mistake of associating compression and loudness with a poor recording. I disagree- they're supposed to sound that way. Unfortunately too much of the current audio...
Class "D" amp? I do not have a clue. Do you?
Some digital amps have 'heroic' power supplies, for example, Spectron and H20.Have you heard those? As with non-class D solid state amps, class D shouldn't be lumped together soundwise.
Is this clipping?
Dob,I've read that paper and I agree. The 300B amp can reach the peaks, but can't sustain them. Fortunately I have Spectron monoblocks in my other system!
Digital room correction, any recommendations?
I corresponded with the DEQX people, and I'm impressed with the attention they gave to my questions. They even researched my speakers, to determine whether the active crossover feature might be of benefit. I was surprised to learn that the externa...
Is this clipping?
Getting back to my particular system (300B, SET, high efficiency full-range driver), I believe that all the components are well-matched, and there is no clipping. My suspicion is that this combination of components (as good as they are for traditi...
Digital room correction, any recommendations?
Good to hear, thank you.
Digital room correction, any recommendations?
Acousticfrontiers, it looks like the Tact 2.2XP meets both of our criteria. Question: Do I lose any of the correction capabilities by using it between my digital source and DAC, rather than as a digital preamplifier?
Digital room correction, any recommendations?
Lyngdorf is reported to be easy to use. But it requires A/D and then D/A conversion between preamp and amp, and I don't want to do that. I want to do the correction before conversion to the analog signal.
Digital room correction, any recommendations?
Two-channel.
Is this clipping?
My speakers are 16 ohm, 97db sensitive, in a small room. The amp is also set for 16 ohm. The volume control on my preamp seldom gets past 11:00, so I wonder if the amp is really clipping.Unsound, I agree with your comment about sustained high volu...
Are Headphone amps worth the expense?
Can a headphone amp be fed by the "line out" or "tape out" of a conventional preamp?
Vandersteen Model 7: has anyone heard?
I haven't heard the 7, but as a former 5a owner, these are the things that I hope the 7 would address:Narrow sweetspot (particularly in the vertical plane)Bass anomalies with certain recordingsLack of midbass energyLack of dynamics and slam with s...
Wavac EC-300B - Feedback Request
I have the Wavac, currently driving the Phy-HP KM30 coaxial driver in an open baffle. The virtues of the amp: Extremely quiet, supremely reliable, virtually no warmup time, all the virtues of 300b midrange with excellent extension at the frequency...
Experienced audiophiles best speaker
I mostly listen to small group acoustic jazz (vinyl source) and heavy metal (digital source). I have two setups. For jazz its all tubes, 300B SET to full range high efficiency coaxial paper drivers. Great for jazz, but no way for rock/metal. For m...
Experienced audiophiles best speaker
I'll admit that first impressions are important- you know immediately when a speaker sounds good if its in a good setup. But you have to live with a speaker to really understand its virtues with different types of music. A 'lively' speaker can eve...
