TAD Reference 1, Rockport Altair, EA MM3 One issue with TAD is customer service, or lack thereof. I own the Reference 1's, and would like to have friendly interaction with the designers, as I do with many of my components in order to get the best possible performance. Unfortunately my em...
Equi=tech 2Q transformer hum, other options? It may be due to DC in your powerlines. There's an active thread on this in Tech Talk. I had this problem with my Isoclean power conditioner. Inserting the Channel Island XDC-2 between the wall outlet and the Isoclean completely eliminated the pro...
How Much DC is OK on a Power Line? My balanced power conditioner (Isoclean) was humming/buzzing loudly, sometimes for hours, sometimes for days, with no predictable pattern, and this was on a dedicated line. I put the Channel Islands XDC-2 between the wall outlet and the Isoclean u...
MacBook Pro to EMM XDS1 Is the XDS1 "DSD-ready"? If so, which interface?
Anyone HEARD the qol 'signal completion' device? I haven't heard the unit, but I'm considering a trial. My hesitation is that I set my system up to achieve sound reproduction that is true to the original recording. That's been my personal definition of the absolute sound so far. It seems to me t...
Anyone HEARD the qol 'signal completion' device? My question is directed to those who claim to have some idea what the QOL is doing: Is it something that could be done during the recording and mastering process? If so, then it would seem to qualify as a distortion device; i.e., something that ch...
Listening Chair? Recliners are not for napping and being lazy, but not for serious active listening. You will lose the fight to stay alert and attentive in the reclining position. With a proper chair you will have improved perception of low level details, provided...
All Amps Sound the Same.... I haven't done direct A/B comparisions in my listening room. But, my guess is that at least some of the affordable multichannel amps from Yamaha, Marantz, Denon and others are competitive with the audiophile offerings of smaller manufacturers. Par...
Is the Accuton driver that good? I have two systems, an Accuton based system and a Phy km30-based system. The Accutons are driven by 300 watts tube-hybrid in a large room. The Phy are driven by 10 Watt 300B in a smaller room. The speakers are by Marten Design and Musical Affairs ...
Ocellia speakers and power 10 Watts of SET fills a 12x12 foot room with plenty to spare.
How do you train your ears? My thought is to stay away from most live venues. Poor acoustics, suboptimal listening positions and uncomfortable seating, crude amplification and amateurish mixing, excessive volume, and noisy neighbors all conspire to produce mediocre sound. On...
Class D vs Class A Education Well-said. Some systems that are true to the source, others are euphonic, and others are neither.
Class "D" amp? I do not have a clue. Do you? Class D refers to the output device, not the power supply. Class D amps can have traditional power supplies or switch-mode power supplies.
Class D vs Class A Education Lacee, Thank you for a detailed and sensible review of your experiences. Very well done, and potentially quite helpful.
Is this clipping? Unsound, Its probably a matter of your personal preference. Some of these recordings are supposed to sound loud and compressed. For better or worse, that's the artist's vision. The traditional criteria for a 'good' recording don't apply. |
