Experiencing Rowland M925 4-chassis reference amps
Guido, I have no doubt that its a wonderful-sounding amp. My first high end amp was one of Rowland's Class D offerings. Ultimately I felt the need to let it go, as it lacked the ability to convey (for me) real musical excitement. It took me a long...
Experiencing Rowland M925 4-chassis reference amps
Jeff Rowland is certainly one of the top amplifier designers. His designs are stunning, exude quality, and demonstrate a favorable price to value ratio. Its nice to read a rave for a company that really deserves it, but without more of a frame of ...
Do you indulge when listening to your rig?
Just for the record, and I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned this yet: Alcohol is a highly permeable neurotoxin that is carried by the bloodstream to all cells in the body, including the hair cells and sensory nerve endings of the inner ear. E...
The Red Green Tinnitus reducer
Look at the Wikipedia definition of "dysesthesia". Nobody would deny that mercury is toxic. But there is no reason to think that mercury fillings selectively affect the ears. In any case, I suspect a simple audiogram would resolve the issue.
Shifting absolutes
I wouldn't want my speakers engineered to distort the signal in a way that sounds good or lifelike or whatever to the designer. If necessary, a good digital signal processor can be used to 'fix' a poor recording, or correct for flawed room acoustics.
The Red Green Tinnitus reducer
In most cases, tinnitus is related to noise-induced hearing loss, having nothing to do with amalgam fillings or other toxins. Its not uncommon for people with tinnitus to have sensory abnormalities involving the external ear and canal, such as fee...
Sophia Electric tube quality
I estimate something like a thousand hours on mine, and they've performed flawlessly. They are about 5 years old.
Hi-rez downloads, any good?
Totally agree. Redbook is audiophile in every sense of the word, when done well. To compete, hi res downloads should be a fraction of their current price.
Vandersteen 5A
The rear firing tweeter is adjustable, so its a kind of tone control.
Stillpoints and reference-level speakers
I'm going to try them, for sure. Stay tuned.
Stillpoints and reference-level speakers
Charles1dad,Yes, I have two systems that are polar opposites. Each one provides different joys and shortcomings, depending on source material. Your system looks very sensible, combining full range with high sensitivity.

Tbg, Wilson is not for me either, but I think its more an issue of preference than quality. My speakers are the TAD References One. The stock footers are simple cones, solid but nothing fancy. As good as the TADs are, I find that they cannot do so...
Stillpoints and reference-level speakers
Hi Crna39, the Alexia is a great speaker, and I'm sure a lot of effort went into the design of the stock Wilson footers. What differences did you hear with the Ultra V's?
Stillpoints and reference-level speakers
Wrm57, those are interesting results. I use some digital EQ in my system, so I might be able to compensate for the mid-bass issue that you mentioned. Creating more air and separation are things that I'm looking for.
Stillpoints and reference-level speakers
Its nice when the maker of an add-on product (Stillpoints in this case) explains how their product works. Its something that many makers of 'tweaks' cannot or will not do. This makes me want to give the Stillpoints products a try, although the pri...
