Amplifier Hum - A Problem Solved
If the source of the DC offset is outside of your home, as it often is, there will be no benefit from using dedicated lines or any other change made within your home. A DC filter (not a conditioner) is the only solution in that case.
Stillpoints and reference-level speakers
TBG, I forgot to mention that the Stillpoints can work for you if you have the threaded inserts shortened so that the body of the footer is flush with the base of the speaker. I had this done by the seller, in this case The Cable Company. I'm told...
Can we talk?
Thanks for your posts. Would love to hear from those former MBL, Magico, Raidho, AvantGarde, TAD owners as well! The only other megabuck speaker I've ever sold beside the Vanderteens was a pair of Marten Coltranes, but not because there was anythin...
Stillpoints and reference-level speakers
In other words, there was an apparent increase in clarity, at the expense of warmth and fullness. More analytical, less musical. This could be an advantage for some speakers, but not for the TADs in my system. I do have thick carpet with a heavy l...
Amplifier Hum - A Problem Solved
Hum Busters used to be relatively common gadgets. They block DC, which is the usual cause of buzzing transformers. I have a Channel Island XDC2, which totally solves this problem:http://www.ciaudio.com/products/XDC2Unfortunately, its been disconti...
Stillpoints and reference-level speakers
Agear, I kind of lost interest when Bo1972 hijacked the thread with his usual nonsense. I tried the Ultra 5's under my TAD Reference Ones with questionable benefit. Some increase in resolution, at the expense of tonality. I couldn't justify the pr...
Can we talk?
I bought a secondhand pair of Vandersteen 5a's sight unseen after reading the rave reviews by Richard Hardesty. Ultimately I became dissatisfied with the narrow dispersion pattern and lack of dynamic midbass, so I sold them.
Do you suffer from ceruminosis?
No need to be overly zealous in removing ear wax. It rarely causes any hearing problems if left alone.
Stillpoints and reference-level speakers
Bo 1972, I've been listening to two-channel for a lot longer than 16 or 18 years. With rare exceptions (such as recordings with phase anomalies), two-channel stereo doesn't produce 3-dimensional sound. Unless of course there's a problem in the pla...
Sloped baffle
Bombaywalla, the DEQX is not plug and play. The correction requires separate measurements of the drivers and the room. Generating the appropriate corrections is not a trivial matter. For me, having the distributor come to my home to do the install...
Elrod statement vs Shunyata anaconda zitrons
In my opinion, people who sell audio should excuse themselves from this thread. Their opinions are hopelessly biased and self-serving.
Sloped baffle
Al, You are welcome. The U.S. distributor, based in Colorado, knows the DEQX unit inside and out, so service is absolutely not an issue.Bifwynne, the input impedance is 30-40 K and the output impedance is about 100 ohm on each signal line. My line...
Sloped baffle
Bifwynne, the DEQX unit that I have also has active crossover capability, although I do not use that feature. Unfortunately, the designer of my speakers had no interest in helping me to disengage the internal passive crossovers.
Sloped baffle
Bifwynne, I'd say that the cost is substantial but fair. The vendor is located in Colorado, and he came to my home in Arizona for the calibration and installation. I don't know if there is a trial program. The DEQX corrects the room acoustics, and...
Sloped baffle
Bombaywalla, I use the DEQX, and I can tell you its tranformative. Because it 'corrects' the drivers, it has a way of making different speakers sound more similar, which would no doubt be disturbing to some potential users. Also, it makes some rec...
