Also, btw, the L speaker is closer to the reflective fire-place wall, so I have a thick brown velvet (same material as the curtains) cover I hang over that surface for listening.  Balances out the upper frequencies perfectly with the R speaker, wh...

jazzman, I'm usually between 6 1/2 - 7 1/2 feet from the speakers.  Closer usually if I've set up any of my stand mounted speakers (e.g. Thiel 02 or Spendor s3/5).   Those Thiels are 7' 8" from my listening position at the moment.  I have the ...

arafiq, That's usually the question I get when I post those photos :-) The explanation for the positioning is here (where I also post photos of my Thiels in the same room):   https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/thiel-owners-2/post?postid=...
Ever Damage A Stylus Using Cleaning Brush?
The cartridge is only about a year and a few months old. I actually don't want to fiddle with it unless absolutely necessary.  After a very arduous cartridge alignment session a while back I hit "gold" and got the best sound I'd ever had.  Not su...
Ever Damage A Stylus Using Cleaning Brush?
Well, there's also the fact that the reason I lifted the needle in the first place is that I've had this occasional distortion problem.  I'll be listening to an album and then the sound will start getting very fuzzy, finally shrinking in to totall...

Oh, I should mention you don't see the projector because it's actually hidden down behind the listening sofa.  It's on a telescoping automated lift, so when you turn the home theater "on" the projector lifts up to over 6' high to project the image.

Just inside the room.  You can see some of the drop down brown velvet ceiling. (It also helps stop sound getting up to our bedroom right above, helpful when I want to listen to music when my wife has gone to bed earlier):

Now that it's easier to post photos here... Here are some photos of my Thiel 2.7 speakers set up in my listening/AV room. The room used to be a single use 2 channel listening room.  However in 2009 I got bit by the Home Theater bug and renova...

@arafiq    Amazing.  Those Perspectives look so gorgeous.  I was blown away when I got mine and they are still among the best looking speakers I've ever had (or seen IMO). I hope you'll give your impressions first without the subs!  :-) Here's...
Ever Damage A Stylus Using Cleaning Brush?
Well, even though I could swear the tone changed a bit, things still sound fantastic so I'll have to go with "it was my imagination."

Thanks for the update Tom. I'm sure looking forward to the finished product!
Ever Damage A Stylus Using Cleaning Brush?
Thanks larryi, I do indeed always keep my turntable arm unlocked for those reasons. mulveling That's what I figured. As to the cleaning lady.... When I made my big turntable upgrade it was from my old micro seiki (donated by my father in law) ...
Ever Damage A Stylus Using Cleaning Brush?
Thanks folks. I'm not an expert on the turntable stuff so still learning. My concern arose from thinking about just how minute an adjustment it can take to alter the sound with a stylus.  For instance I use the arduous mint protractor when I hav...

@tomthiel  What's the state of your Thiel 02 development?  Could you remind me what you've done to the little critters? Too bad this forum is so 1998 in tech terms; I'd love to see a photo of your 02s posted here.

vdotman, What was the problem with the Perspective2s in your room? Bass bloat? I have the original Perspectives in a 13’ x 15’ room (with a large opening to a hallway). Mine are pulled out about 4 feet from the back wall. I get nice even sound w...
