Ugly vs Gogeous speakers
I like exotic woods liked striped ebony and at one point nearly bought a pair of Thiels just for that (and they sounded good of course). Same here. When I first started contemplating buying a Thiel 2.7 or 3.7 years ago someone had offered to sell ...
Focal Kanta No.2: A New Age Continued...
Interesting dave, I heard them on Naim gear as well.  (Front end, and I think it might have been with a big Anthem amp too). The room was well treated and the speakers seemed placed well...but who knows?  Things usually sound better at home.I tried...
Focal Kanta No.2: A New Age Continued...
Nice speakers! I love it when a company cares about how a speaker looks, with a good contemporary design that makes a bit of a statement.I auditioned the new Kanta speakers not long ago.  They were certainly excellent - very clear and precise mids...

Yes, fair enough douglas.   Cheers!
Do You Care About AESTHETICS? What Are Your Gear/Listening Room Preferences?...
Hi douglas,I agree that a highly aesthetic product will tend to come with high build quality (though...even that, depending on interpretation...may be something of a tautology).I simply meant to point out that most audiophiles in this forum would ...
Do You Care About AESTHETICS? What Are Your Gear/Listening Room Preferences?...
@douglas_schroeder "I have found no direct correlation between appearance/aesthetics and sound quality. "That would seem pretty obvious from the experience of most audiophiles, wouldn’t it?At least in a wider sense, it’s obvious someone can design...

Re MBLs, rooms etc.I have a very nice sounding room as fortunately it was a reno done with the assistance of an acoustician. All the acoustic "treatment" is hidden as part of the design, so for instance the ceiling is built down and is actually co...

"The outriggers and spikes on my CS2.4SE raise the speakers a good 2""That's one reason I haven't used mine.  Even raising my speakers on shorter footers has changed the sound in a way I don't care for.
Thiel Owners
@tomthielThanks Tom.Just to be clear, when you write: <i>"38" ear height is design target."</i>Does that design target assume the speaker is on spikes or not?
Thiel Owners
@tomthiel,Regarding raising/spiking Thiel speakers.I’ve generally had the best success in my room with my 3.7s/2.7s (and other speakers) sitting right on the floor, no spikes. (It’s a wood foor covered in a shag carpet). However, I’ll probably try...
Is Spiking Necesarry?
My problem with spikes and footers is that every time I've ever raised my speakers using them - and that includes several different speakers - I've found a change for the worse.  The  upper/lower bass tends to start bloating a bit more.  Whereas s...

unsound,I was big on Dunlavy when they were popular, heard many models, including auditioning some as possible purchases.   The Aletha model (unfortunately not many made as Dunlavy folded not long after introduction) was really something.  It prod...

beetlemania,On the subject of soundstaging:I've always owned speakers that were particularly good at disappearing and soundstaging.  Which is a bit ironic because my first priority by far is tone in a sound system - the ability to portray beautifu...
