Dunlavy SC-IV minus SC-I = a good sub?
I'm going to disagree with the above statements.I have many years experiences with every model of the original Dunlavy line. I've owned several pairs of the SC-1, including the original prototype speaker that helped to launch Dunlany Audio Labs. I...
Magico Q7 . . . wow
I stand partially corrected regarding the driver design. Stronger magnets will, indeed, increase the efficiency. But more than likely, it's just the woofers that make up that difference. Tweeters that produce 94dB is easy, especially with neodymiu...
Magico Q7 . . . wow
"the Q7 have completely different drivers (magnet)than rest of the range"Highly, HIGHLY doubt it. Looking closely at them, I have no reason to believe this.Perhaps you can try to explain the differences. But I believe there to be none of any signi...
Magico Q7 . . . wow
Taking a closer look at the entire Q line, a few things become obvious.A) They all use the same tweeter/midrangeB) All of the drivers come from the same family of designC) All cabinets are of the same rigid aluminum constructionD) Crossover parts ...
Magico Q7 . . . wow
"Both Wilson and Evolution are very impressive products, but both are heavily "voiced" and have very little to do with the "Fidelity" part of the phrase "High-Fidelity"."To be fair, so is Magico. Just one example. Taking a beryllium tweeter and pl...
Magico Q7 . . . wow
LOLI read Stringreen's comment and had a hunch. It proved true when I saw his system.... Vandersteen speakers. And I agree!None of these lines, Magico/Wilson/YG/etc. can claim to be "anti-audiophile" speakers compared to the Vandersteens. All things...
Review: CH Technologies X15 power cord Power cord
At first I thought Manngrove's response was a little over the top. How could cables be the most satisfying items ever bought for a stereo system? But now I get it. The reason is simple. When I think about it, there are maybe 4-5 different speakers ...
Best Line Conditioner
I'm sticking with Running Springs. Don't let the price fool you. (Especially when comparing to bloated stuff like Tripoint.)Given that every single internal part is made in house by one of the most internationally well respected manufacturers of e...
Why not horns?
Thanks Macrojack. That was very helpful.
Why not horns?
I have a question for the horn guys.A complex musical signal has both compression and rarification components of it's pressure wave. I can see how the compression component interacts with the horn. How does the rarification component react with it...
Why not horns?
Also, Macrojack, John Dunlavy was known for claiming that his later Dunlavy Audio Labs speakers were superior to his earlier Duntech designs precisely because the "new" (at the time) MLSSA system gave him the opportunity to measure far more precis...
Why not horns?
Macrojack, Those TC-50s are notorious for showing up in any discussion of time coherence. They've become practically an iconic item in the discussion. Because they used a first order filter on the mid/woofer driver and had that distinctive slanted...
Why not horns?
Unsound, ALL time coherent designers think/thought this. Vandersteen, Thiel, Johnson, etc.It is the single measurement that most distinctly shows the output signal as it relates to time. And timing was the paramount issue for all of these guys.
Why not horns?
Exactly Herman! What you've stated is the crux of the argument FOR time coherence. What I stated is the over simplified reasoning given by designers who use steep filters. They point to "phase coherence" but the only thing they are measuring is sin...
Why not horns?
Macrojack, YES, that is the precise way to describe it. It is 360degrees out of phase. But if you take a snapshot in time and look at the waveform (sine waves show this best, obviously) it LOOKS like it is aligned because all of the peaks and vall...
