Hi Agear, What do you mean by mechanical grounding? By this, do you mean coupling to the floor and speaker? (versus isolation) That's no more complicated than using a heavy enough stand and spikes that will lock into the floor and a hard connectio...

Krell_man. My point was that I don't think it takes too much to build a very good stand for a small speaker. The stands from Sound Anchors are about as overbuilt as I've ever seen. Incredibly heavy, sturdy, and inert. All the things you want from ...

Glory, I'm well aware of how important it is to have good, solid and well built stands under a speaker.I'm just not of the opinion that they need to be "correct".A well built stand is nothing special. It's not rocket science. And I personally don'...

So you're going to put a $2K stand under a $2k speaker. I'm not ridiculing that, mind you. I just think it's funny the way we do things in the high end. lol

I don't quite understand how the Equarack Footers relates to making the SS stands a no brainer. The Equarack footers are an "isolation" device. The SS is a "coupling" device. Two very different approaches. Not necessarily good idea to mix the two. ...
The best way to break in speakers.
When I was working retail I'd always put each new floor model through the same workout.I'd use a mono recording or take a Y splitter and feed a single source channel output into a stereo amp. Then I'd face the speakers towards each other and place...
Dunlavy SC-IV minus SC-I = a good sub?
The Dome came first. But it didn't last long in production. The domes had wonderful measurements. Absolutely superior impulse response. But often failed in the field, many times due to nothing more than shipping. The cones soon replaced them and did...
Vandersteen Model 7: has anyone heard?
The perceived lack of bass impact could have been set-up. What those of us who have experienced the 7s know for sure is that they have decidedly excellent and accurate bass.I would posit that, as is often the case, some listeners are simply accust...
Dunlavy SC-IV minus SC-I = a good sub?
My experience (as is most others familiar with the line) is that they all sound pretty much exactly the same with the exception of bass extension and linearity in larger rooms.Though, were I to pick just one, it would be the SC-5. That one was the...
Magico Q7 . . . wow
Stereotaipei,I don't need to be arguing with anyone in order to express an opinion do I?I think all you just did was say what I've said in a different way.Why is this an issue?
Wilson Audio sophia 3 or Watt Puppy 6
Ricred1,I compare Sophia III to the W/P8 and prefer the Sophia III.The Sasha (which would have been W/P9) is better than the Sophia III. If you have the means, the Sasha is the way to go. Otherwise, the Sophia III is perfectly satisfying.
Wilson Audio sophia 3 or Watt Puppy 6
No question, Sophia 3, all the way.Sophia 1 was better than W/P6Sophia 2 was better than W/P7Sophia 3 is better than W/P8And, yes, I have extensive listening experience, in a variety of systems, of all of these combinations.

Not to beat a dead horse, especially since this thread is a little old, but I am sort of astonished by the arguments here. The speaker, unlike anything else in the chain of a stereo, is the electro-MECHANICAL piece that actually produces the sound....
Magico Q7 . . . wow
Usermanual,The vertical symmetrical array is not what gives the boost, per se. It's the doubling up of drivers. Depending on where the microphone is set-up when measuring, the location of those drivers is irrelevant. Even then, it's only 3dB, not ...
Magico Q7 . . . wow
From one of the Sounstage articles on CES2012....."The point here is that these new ultra-powerful magnets have allowed Magico to design and build drivers so efficient that the overall sensitivity of the Q7 is rated at 94dB, which is quite high fo...
