The Lawyers Have Taken Over Audio
Jmcgrogan2, I'm sure that Mr. Schwartz's assertion that "The more you spend the closer you get to musical truth." takes into consideration that professionals will be in charge of installing and fine tuning the system. Because let's face it, if you...
Mo' money. Mo' problems.
I've got to say that in my experience audiophiles are a particularly quirky obsessive-compulsive lot. By nature, most of us will never be completely satisfied or finished and I suppose that is why we have high-end companies catering to our neurosi...
Looking for good match to Cayin TA-30
In a room that size I'd recommend the Tekton Design Lore-S speakers. In my 12'x14' room they sound outrageously musical with my 40watt/channel QuickSilver GLA tube amp. I'm sure your Cayin would work great with them. Read the reviews! Also, take a...
Should I upgrade home theatre to one with HDMI?
Imhififan, I see a lot of debate in the forums about being able to use a splitter (even a 3D one) to pass 3D video to a monitor and Hi-def audio to the receiver and everyone seems to be saying that it doesn't work. Have you actually tried it using...
Should I upgrade home theatre to one with HDMI?
Kr4 is correct but let me elaborate by saying that you need HDMI to get the highest quality audio meaning Dolby TruHD and DTS HD Master Audio playback. These formats are commonly found on many available Blu-ray discs and do sound considerably bett...
Silver Pioneer and Tubes???
I think you'd probably be better off going with a more modern tube piece like a Jolida or Primaluna, etc. The Dyna PAS is musical but sloppy, which you may like but the sound is very dated in my view. You are not likely to gain in technical perform...
Tube Amp Watts and Quality Electrons. LOL
To elaborate on Mapman's answer... since tube amps soft clip they can be played at a higher average level since their clipping distortion will not usually destroy speaker drivers (normally tweeters). And many users of tube amps routinely drive the...
Should I use a separate transport?
You'd have to be crazy to spend $1400 to repair that player. that's ridiculous.Buy a new one and sell the old one for parts if you can.I just bought a used Denon DVD-2900 cheap to use as a transport from Craig's List and I'm leaving it at that.Get...
12.12.12 concert
Brf... I agree on Roger Waters for sure and Billy Joel's performance was excellent too. The guy on the sax was great and Billy was in great form too. I think Diana Krall came out for one band and played piano but I forget which one.I was recording...
VMPS Speakers Co. Closes Down
Yes, this is sad news. Brian Cheney's VMPS speaker designs routinely gave more bang-for-the-buck than the competition. He and his no-nonsense approach to speaker design will be sorely missed. My best wishes to Brian for his recovery.
Review of Tekton Pendragon-Se Loudspeaker
Looks like another excellent speaker from Tekton's Eric Alexander.Enjoy!
Tekton- HOT- Pendragon-SE First Impressions
Very cool... I have the Tekton Lore-S with Seas drivers in my small room system and I think they're fantastic. Keep us posted on your further impressions.
stack speakers question
Since there's a 2dB difference in efficiency and they are both 4-Ohm speakers you might want to bi-amp them with at least one of the amps having a volume control to adjust for their difference in relative loudness. You can use any speaker cables th...
The best preamp for Rouge M-180
I don't know... I think a perfect compliment for the Rouge would be the Cosmetics LPS with eye-liner pen remote... I'd think you'd get a warmer tone with a bit more midrange blush.
How many switches do you have to flip the play a CD?
I used to have to switch on a bunch of gear but then I got smart and bought a PS Audio P3 Power Plant. I programmed one outlet to be powered up at all times (for the preamp) and have the other 3 output banks set to power up my other components wit...
