What would you do?
I agree with S7horton. It should be certified from the manufacturer that you are getting a set of matched drivers. You could order another new set and have other more offensive shipping damage. Then what? I'm assuming the speakers are not that ligh...
Forgiving, musical speaker....
Any of the older Magnepans before the QR (Quasi-Ribbon) tweeters.
Tekton pedragon finish
I asked Eric about putting a wood veneer finish on the Pendragons a few months ago and at that time he said his veneer press would not handle a speaker the size of the Pendragon so it was not an option.Frank
Tosslink/Optical
Yes, different brands and models of Toslink cables do sound different. I've tried two different brands in my system and one sounds brighter than the other although they both sound very good.Frank
what is the best position for pendragons
Brian, the Pendragons are a blast and a heck of a bargain from what I've heard and read. If you think you can place them two or three feet out from the wall then I'd go for it.Worst case scenario (as with any speakers in an unknown room) you might...
Speaker placement question-
If you have a question about a particular speaker from a particular review why not e-mail the reviewer and ask him how the measurements were taken?Frank
Upgrade rainmakers to hawks, clues, tekton or fritz?
Hello Jon,I seriously doubt that the Totem Hawks, although decent, will be on the same page with the Tekton Lore-S when it comes to overall balance and purity of tone.I have not heard the Sjofn Clue speakers, but took a look at their specs which t...
Frustrated with the sound of my system
Sounds like you may have poor room acoustics. Any system will sound bad in a room with poor acoustics. You could either put the system in a better room or try to work with the room you have by installing sound absorbing panels at the primary refle...
Cartridge Recommendation
I have an excellent ZYX 4D-G/SB cartridge barely broken in that is very detailed and musical. It's also very extended in the high frequencies. It is for sale here on Audiogon for a very attractive price if you're interested.
Bass and Bass Traps
If possible, if your speakers are on the short wall relocate them to the long wall or vice versa. Other than that, electronic room EQ might be your other option if your woofers and amp can handle it...
Should i move rack to sidewall?
Running extension cords is not a good idea... especially to the amplifiers. What you want to do is get your rack out of an area that reinforces the low bass, i.e., into a room null. You might be able to do that by simply moving the rack a foot or m...
Loss of inner detail
Good question... usually you get more detail when you go to separates. Maybe the new pieces don't like your old cables or you're not using any AC power conditioning. And I don't know how good your digital cable is. I do know that DH Lab's Toslink ...
Pros and Cons of "Staying with" Analog and Vinyl
Since I have a large collection of vinyl (and also digital media) I have continued to own and use high-quality phonograph systems. If I did not own a large vinyl collection already, I would probably not get into it now as back in the day, I bought...
Queen of Pain
Yes, I love that album and agree that it's something special. It's definitely one of my favorites.Cheers!
amp for VMPS - RM/X
You could try a Wyred 4 Sound ST-500 or STI-500 (integrated version). It's a very neutral ultra detailed amp and works very well with my RM2 speakers. Since the VMPS are probably already on the lean side in the lower midrange, it should give you w...
