New or used? Used is cheaper, new is not. It's as simple as that and does not depend on price. Most new products are continually evolving. They just cost is all.
Vibration and Isolation at a budget? Put your brass cones on the TT and four soft mounts like Sorbothane, Vibropods or IsoBlocks (in order of soft to not so soft) between maple and Salamander. At those prices you can experiment. Brass cones under Era with a weight on top. Remove sand...
funk firm t'tables? Cyto,Of course, better cartridges will be better even on an inexpensive table. I was simply suggesting that funds would be better appropirated towards a nicer table/arm. I was also grouping th Funk with the Rega P3 and related lesser versions disc...
Vibration and Isolation at a budget? Michael Percy also sells Audio Points which I believe are the cheapest good solid brass cones and a bit cheaper than the Mapleshade and Walker cones. If cheap is the goal, any cones will be better than none and there are cheaper ones.Feil,Evidentl...
Vibration and Isolation at a budget? Audiofeil,I believe I made that clear. My above post and this one are relevant to defending a well intentioned and exceedingly generous man and his work from illconsidered smear. It is also an attempt to inform similar situations. Neither Pierre n...
Vibration and Isolation at a budget? Mapleshade uses two, glued double decker but crossways, for heavier units, and the same but cut into 2" blocks for lighter units. If you do the math you'll see their mark up is only normal amount necessary bring anything to market. It is a testimo...
Mapleshade brass tubedampers IME, the sound should get less hashy, with cleaner, tighter bass, and more natural tranparancy and warmth. Bear in mind that some dampers, Mapleshade included, act as shields that you can ground which adds (or subtracts actually) another dimension.
How to tell if lp is recorded with phase reversed? Buffyjames, that's if the two channels are out of phase from each other, ie. if one of your speaker's wires are reversed. No relation to what we've been talking about.
funk firm t'tables? Tpsonic,I'm not certain exactly what your question is. There are two levels of compatability, mecahnical and sonic. I don't feel as qualified as someone like Thom at Galibier to discuss mechanical table/arm compatibility issues but the mechanics o...
HIGH output MC verses High MC??? check out this recent thread:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?eanlg&1184456375
How to tell if lp is recorded with phase reversed? Phase can't be screwed up, beyond reversal, during mastering. It is in the recording and mixing that different mic feeds can be reversed individually. Also, if more than one mic is used simultaneously on a given "take", they can conflict with each...
funk firm t'tables? Tpsonic,"I believe that the above mentioned VDH Condor was tried after several other cartridges, this was done to determine the limiting factors for the supplied table.I believe a re-read is in order. It seemed that the other tables didn't justify d...
Mapleshade brass tubedampers Mapleshade is famous for pursuing sonics to the exclusion of logistics and, understandably, many users. I've never had a problem with them but it takes a certain kind of person to be willing to deal with them.
When cleaning vinyl - what to use for Walker is just now shipping newly devised brushes for the three steps of his Prelude. I just got some but haven't tried them yet. They look good but I can't vouch for any special effectiveness. I have found that stubborn spots will elude all but t...
funk firm t'tables? Someone just drew my attention to the fine print that in the above cited review the Funk was demoed with a several thousand dollar VdH Condor cartridge whereas the others were demoed with the stock cheapies. Mind blowing negligence! |
