Name a couple of HOLY GRAIL LPs
Steal Away - Larry Willlis on piano w/ Cecil McBee on bass and Gary Bartz on alto sax. Engineered by Pierre Sprey of Mapleshade for Audioquest. Great presence/ great lyrical jaz trio.
What could be wrong?
I had this problem with a Sumiko Bluepoint Special and cured it by gyrating the cantelever around in a very small circle. I don't know why this worked but as a last resort I was just screwing around with it trying to find sht was wrong and got luc...
denon 160, AT 150, orton 540 mk2 or Grado Sonata?
You might want to add the Benz MC Gold and Ace, and the Clearaudio Aurum Beta S to your list.
How does the Technics SL 1200 compare with....
Managing resonances for sonics has to do with isolating and evacuating resonances generated internally such as those generated by the motor, by the spindle and arm bearings and by the cartridge. Managing resonances for isolation has to do with iso...

Sounds like your off and running. enjoy!
How does the Technics SL 1200 compare with....
Managing resonance for sonics and for isolation are two very different things. The Technics does very well for isolation but I question whether it is as competitive for sonics in this respect.
Clearaudio Master Reference - impressions?
second the outer limit.
Clearaudio Master Reference - impressions?
I've heard the Master Reference at Musical Surroundings and it is definitely a serious piece of work. Speed stability and isolation are exemplary. I've always questioned that arm design but it ain't exactly chopped liver. The entire rig may or may...

Tvad,I don't see myself as offering a "point of view" so much as observations and hypotheses. It makes sense to me that a direct drive would need damping. I did not at all intend to say that the Rega low mass undamped technique is better, just tha...

Audio is obviously very subjective and there is simply no accounting for taste. That is not to say that there is no basis for ojective analysis, but people have different priorities and are sometimes willing to put up with some major downsides to ...

Audiofeil, the fact is, except for the edginess, I prefered the Rega. Generally, I am always on the look out for a better, more elegant and, if possible, cheaper answer. I would have been delighted to find a cut and dried result so I could move on ...
How does the Technics SL 1200 compare with....
Audiofeil,In my comparison, it was definitely not so cut and dried, in either direction. Perhaps my sample of the Technics was compromised in some way, but not that I could tell. I used the same cart, mat and record weight and mounted both on the ...

I'm surprised you're not considering Michell's own Techno Arm.
Old B&O vs. new Rega P1
I'm a Rega dealer and I don't consider the P1 to be anything other than a cheap way to get in the door. It may compete well with other entry level (meaning nothing cheaper out there worth considering) tables but you need to stretch a bit higher to...
