DAC for Rega Planet 2000 The only newer DAC that I can think of that would be an improvement in that price range is a used EVS Millenium DAC. The DAC 2 would be the best, but those are usually over $500. You could find a used DAC 1A or 1B for that amount, but there aren't...
Anybody know the lowest freq on "Who Let The Dogs Out"? I'm not sure about that song in particular, but those types of songs usually have loud, ultra boosted bass, but not necessarily deep bass, frequency-wise. They're not the same thing. A huge pipe organ recording would probably have deeper bass, eve...
Best Buy or Good Value in a Transport CD I *think* the guy at Great Northern Sound was once a tech or desinger for CAL. He does mods, and he could probably fix your transport. I would bet that a mod from him would sound better than a stck unit in that price range, but I have no idea what...
Headphone Amps try www.headwize.com...I think that's a headphone specific forum with plenty of info. Search the archives here and at AudioAsylum too...lots of info in both.
Tubes Do It -- Transistors Don't. Hey Kevziek...I hate to break it to you, but on most recordings the instruments ARE panned into place with a mixer. Sorry. :-)SS amps might be more accurate in that way (allowing you to "hear" the seperation between tracks). I do agree with you th...
Questions about a new Ruby 2 cartridge Yeah...definitely play with the loading. I found 100ohms to be a little too compressed and dull. I did some research at it seemed like people recommended ranges from 300 to 29,000. The distributor recommended trying the 900ohm range and it worked ...
47 Labs Cable-Impressions anyone? Try searching the archives (under 47 labs or Sakura??). I think I remember a looooong thread abotu those cables a year or so ago.
Why so many Benz Rubys for sale? They are also probably one of the best selling cartridge brands, so that means more on the used market. Besides that...a Ruby 2 version was released a year or so ago.
Audiophile Gold import CD's? There were never any legitimate MFSL CDs made...just LPs. If they exist, they're bootlegs...most likely CD copies of the LPs. Of course, they may still sound great if they were done correctly, but I wouldn't pay hundreds for bootlegs.
Looking for a great tube headphone amp I would check out the Berning MicroZOTL and the EarMax (maybe the Wheatfield too...I haven't heard as much about that one). You really need to listen to the Grado's and Sennheiser HD600 and make your own decision. They're both great headphones and ...
REGA Planet vs Jupiter For the price of the Jupiter you could probably find a better player (especially if you buy used).
Are Capitole and Mephisto recommended components? I'm not positive, but I don't think the Aero Audio Capitole was out in October of 2000.
Swan label and the Beatles VeeJay is a Chicago label that released the first U.S. Beatles album (Introducing The Beatles) before a similar version was released on Capitol as...huh...what the hell was it called again?? Oh yeah..."Meet The Beatles" (I'm used to the UK titles ...
Suggestion for bedroom speakers All of the above suggestions are good...the Mission's are front-ported and the Axiom's are rear ported. If I were you, I'd audition a few pairs in your house with your system (good dealers will let you audition at home, and Axiom has a 30-day tria...
CD volume levels Would you mind listing them or e-mailing me with their names?? I may be looking into mastering a rock band recording sometime soon. I'd be especially interested in any in, or near, Chicago. Thanks again! |
