What are best phono preamps under $500 ? Like Sean said, Music Direct dropped the Cube (or was dropped by Lehmann...who really knows the story) and is offering multiple phono pre's for less than $600 (there are nine listed in their new catalog...eight for under $500). The various makers ...
Digital Optical Cables - how important is brand? I know it sounds silly, but I have no idea if one cable is really better than the other, or if the Bolder just works better with my particular transport and DAC (an EVS modded Sony CDP and EVS Millenium DAC 2). I have owned the Apogee Wyde Eye, Ca...
The Flaming Lips are Go Manifesto I like the Flaming Lips quite a bit and have for ten years or so. Unfortunately, Wayne Coyne's voice still grates on me after extended listening (like a bad Neil Young, if that's possible). I still find myself getting a little bored by the samenes...
What determines speaker distance? It all depends on your room and your speakers, but all of the above is good advice. Try checking out one of the set-up formulas (like the one on the Cardas website). They take your room dimensions into account. The speaker to speaker distance, spe...
Digital Optical Cables - how important is brand? Hi Lkdog, I would recommend checking out the Bolder digital cable (with Eichman bullet plug RCAs) for your coax option. It's a very well made digital cable, it sounds excellent, and it only costs about $85. The Apogee Wyde Eye is also a great deal...
The plight of SACD.... The only way SACD will become the common format is if the manufacturers start making ALL players and ALL discs CD/SACD hybrids AND continue to charge the same amount of money for both. The benefits of SACD would probably be somewhat drastic to mos...
LP12 Setup: Dead & Lifeless: Where's the air? I agree with the above...check everything, or pay someone to set it up properly. Linn tables may be a bit warm in the mid bass, but mine has never ever sounded the way you described (with either the Benz Glider or Benz Ruby 2 cartridges).
has anyone heard of david sylvian ? www.gemm.com is a good world-wide source for LPs...ebay is worth checking too. Either way, look at the sellers' feedback before purchasing.Finding an older LP "new or played once" might not be too easy (to prove, or find), but you should be able t...
Very tube-friendly monitor speakers? Coincident makes quite a few models that are very tube friendly and I've read good things about their speakers.
do you have a sperate audio and HT system? I gave up my HT stuff about five years ago and I don't miss it one bit. I run the DVD through my 2 channel stereo and I'm very happy with the results. I do see most *big* movies at the the theater, so that may explain why I don't miss the HT.
Which headphones should be purchased? "I never tried the etymotics. I was a little concerned with having a speaker THAT close to my eardrum. "I know what you mean, but the design blocks out all external noise...you should actually be listening at a lower volume level than you would wi...
Which The Golden Cross will add a little more low end warmth and bass than the GR, so it really depends on your system and your tastes. Someone with a brighter system would probably prefer the GC and find it to be more musical. Is your system very balan...
Question about using DVD player Hi Rockyboy,If you're using the analog outputs from the DVD to your preamp, don't worry about it...the player will do all of the converting for you. If you hook it up digitally to the Resolultion Audio DAC (which I suggest you try...it may sound b...
How to Judge an LP The above points are good, but even new LPs are a gamble. For instance, I recently purchased the new Linda Thompson LP and it's a bad pressing. A huge mark on one side (which is audible) and random noises throughout. You never know what you're goi...
Affordable intergrated with phono stage..new/used? Maybe a used Audiolab integrated?? I think that company died, so their units were selling used & demo for decent prices. You might also check into used integrateds or receivers (from the 80s or 90s) from companies like McIntosh, Luxman, Revox,... |
