Do all tube preamps leak DC?
Erik, cap upgrades, maybe Mundorf.Steroeo5, I'm willing to bet that even though the M3a has no gain adjustment, it is probably more detailed because the sound travels through less pots.
Do all tube preamps leak DC?
Stereo5, yes I do see your concern with too much gain and although Audible Illusions did provide a way to reduce the overall gain on the L1 that provision was not afforded to the M3a (still is a spectacular sounding preamp in its own right though).
Do all tube preamps leak DC?
Thank you Erik & paul79 for your input, I'm feeling better with this combination already. Although 6 Moons considers the Job 225 has set very high standards & his first listening tests with a tube preamp was one of the cons as he was getti...
Do all tube preamps leak DC?
Thanks Erick, the Audible illusions L1 has four dip switches that can be turn off four caps on the output. Audible Illusions recommends for better sonics and after the preamp breaks in to keep them caps (dip swithes) in the off position. Would thi...
Using "pre-outs" of an integrated amp provide sound quality equal to a separate pre-amp?
An integrated amp is essentially a preamp and power amp sharing the same box so if its of good quality there is no reason why you couldn't use the integrated internal preamp (preamp outs) to drive your Bat power amp. One time my preamp needed new ...
What do audiophiles want from a cable?
Cables essentially are tone controls. You are basically altering the lows, mids, and highs by trial and error. It just comes down to which one floats your boat in your room with your setup.
Finally stepping into the hobby after 30 years of watching from the sidelines
Costly indeed! I want the op to think about what he is doing and get a good nights sleep, after that if he still wants in we will have no choice but to allow it. This is usually granted on rare occasions but I don't think we will have a choice.
Finally stepping into the hobby after 30 years of watching from the sidelines
What took you so long? You must be very tired after watching from the sidelines for all that time. But I would definately go all out because you have 30 years to make up, good luck!
Best Preamp - NO preamp... (?)
Mitch2, thank you for taking the time to explain in detail the other variables involved and pointing out the genius behind Steve McCormacks designs which I believe are top notch!
Best Preamp - NO preamp... (?)
Passives of good quality are now being touted as being as good as very expensive active preamps if not better. Taking it one step further if your amp has sufficient gain, going direct can be surprisingly good but as you mentioned, you lose the abi...
Would you go all 1 brand for electronics?
inna, yes I looked into the Gamut Integrated you mentioned. It's a fine looking piece, bet it sounds excellent but I'm not interested in integrated amps. I'm sure if someone is trying to save space that could be the one.
Would you go all 1 brand for electronics?
Going all Audio Research is not a bad thing, in fact it's a sound investment having a good resale value, you can tell a lot of effort goes in to build quality both internally and externally.I always wanted to try Gamut products, tried many other b...
Does the heat an amp puts out have any effect on the sound quality ?
Class D certainly offers its own unique sound, runs very cool but my preference is more towards conventional designs. Anyway I think heat is good for transistors, as they warm up they sound better but definately not if they go into thermal run-away.
Review: Forte F-44 Preamplifier
I do understand this is an older thread and I understand as time goes on people's system's do evolve. However a very good design should be viable for years to come as does the Forte F44. Just recently purchased this pre and I can tell you it is on...
What in the world is going on.....
Yes I own some poor recordings both on CD and LP but I will still play them even if they don't bring my system to its full potential, I want to hear the music that they contain but still recognize that the system can and does sound better with qua...
