NAD preamp question I like NAD preamps, always thought they sounded very good for the price. Maybe since you like the linestage and not the phono stage you should consider buying an external Cambridge phono preamp, their not expensive but they sound really good!
Is no preamp really better that a good preamp? I can understand where Georgelofi is coming from. He is from the camp that less is more and he is not alone in his thinking. There are many people on this website that would agree with him. Once upon a time I went that path myself. Yes there was m...
Tubes and their problems Daveyf, lets hope the bad tubes if any are in the preamp. I think you have some concerns but more importantly you are picking up a station I've never heard of.
Tubes and their problems Bifwynne, of course, let us pray!
Is no preamp really better that a good preamp? Georgelofi, you are not seriously asking me to recommend a preamp when I have no idea what amp or speakers the Op is using. You sir are asking me to put the horse before the cart. However I'm advocate for using a preamp. Detail as you seem to be h...
Is no preamp really better that a good preamp? Rustler, if your satisfied with your current power amp, I want you to look at the addition of a preamp as talorying the sound to your liking, bringing out the best qualities from your power amp, both complementing each other. Some power amps need ...
Tubes and their problems Atmasphere, thank you for your in depth answer. I was hoping that you could explain arc-over and its cause.
Tubes and their problems I agree that microphonic tubes do not indicate failure but in fact I have used these tubes with great success, some of which sound pretty darn good. If they are too microphonic you can tame them a bit with tube dampers.Does anyone know for sure wh...
Would adding a pre back into the system eliminate This is not a disaster but a journey and we have all been there. Trial and error is what we do naturally so no harm has been done. You most definately will want to add a preamp again to increase dynamics, preferably a warmer but detailed one.
Is the moscode 600 a great amplifier? Mosfet mist is defined as the veiling of the highs. However when Mosfets are employed in a well engineered product they are extremely good sounding.
Crown XLS 1500 Stewg, I purchased the PS Audio HCA-2 (first switching amp to come to market), the problem was that it only excelled with big efficient speakers. I've used Wyred 4 Sound, and Nuforce. All good amps but I think the Crown is more dynamic with the ex...
Crown XLS 1500 I've not had any issues with hiss in fact I can't hear any detectable hiss at all regardless where the level controls are set. Maybe this is more of a impedance mismatch with the preamp. The XLS series all share the same design philosophy for the e...
Crown XLS 1500 I own the Crown XLS 1500 and I will tell you that this amp is a major overachiever and is ridiculously good at its price point! It is a Class D switching amp with a switching power supply and the chip is designed by Texas Instruments. It will soun...
TUBE AMP LOVERS - What SS amp makes you smile??? Geoffkait, I personally don't want to buy any swampland in Florida but if you got any beachfront property in Arizona, I'm your taker. Anyhow not all, but some new tube amps sounds like very good solid state. Go figure, but there is some very good ...
Why Don't More People Love Audio? Cdc, you're correct, unfortunately there is no user manual when it comes down to buying audio gear and or trying to assemble a good sounding system. But if you have been in the hobby long enough you just know when you have reached that point of pe... |
