Marantz 8B Conversion to Triode Mode Help
Ok @atmasphere you got me intrigued about building an amp! I hope I can find the guidance I was looking for with this post on that project!
Marantz 8B Conversion to Triode Mode Help
Thanks again @atmasphere and @jetter for the tips on the Dynaco. I had a PAS2 and "graduated" to other vintage and modern preamps. It's good to hear from experienced ears that the ST70 is worth exploring.

Thanks @atmasphere for the thoughtful concerns. I will definitely consider the alternatives and do some more research on people who have done this mod on the 8b. Peter
Marantz 8B Conversion to Triode Mode Help
Some history from a regular on the Steve Hoffman forum:The triode switch was first implemented commercially by Marantz in 1955 with their Model 2. Sid Smith had studied the different topologies extensively and determined that this mode gave the mo...
Marantz 8B Conversion to Triode Mode Help
Thanks for the clarity, @imhififan !As for why would I consider doing this to an 8b, I would try it to see what it sounds like. This exact mod is described in the consumer Instruction Manual that came with the amp in the 1960s when consumers owned...

Thank you very much @imhififan . I assume this is repeated at each tube base and what the resistor was attached to is then the "dead end" referred to in the manual. LMK if I've got that wrong. I appreciate you marking up the photo for me!Peter

Thanks for the comment!
I really could use some help here.....
@asvjerry FYI, I only recently bought a pair of speakers that are made to be biwired, so I researched why something so odd could work. My Totems sounded different to me biwired, and this research provides an explanation beyond "listen to the diffe...
I really could use some help here.....
I don't think anyone addressed this part of your question explicitly yet. Regarding the bi-wiring, you are still getting that benefit if the frequency of the speaker crossover is higher than your subwoofer crossover. So if you are only sending abo...
What Are Your Reference Discs? or Specific Reference Tracks
I listen to a lot of things, but in the spirit of your "new gems" search, two tracks that I've been testing with as I've been moving my system around various apartments this year are 1.) "Afterglow" by Lydia Ainsworth (from Darling of the Afterglo...
Seriously considering tube preamp…opinions?
I have only one Schiit comparison: I went from using a Marantz 7C vintage tube preamp to the Freya (original model) and am very happy with the Schiit and think it's great (the Marantz was beautiful and the Freya is comparable). Switching tubes mak...
Streaming + DAC questions. Please help this noob!
Hi @quesofrito,  I hope you're having fun improving the listening experience. There seems to always be further to go, but certain initial steps in the system are huge. You can usually get a free period to test Tidal. The jump from lower res spotif...
Which Preamp Tube is most consequential: Input or Gain

Which Preamp Tube is most consequential: Input or Gain
@rodman99999 Thank you for sending the link! I actually found that list embedded in another forum discussion. It’s why I picked the Tung Sols Halo Getters! I read the paragraph you mentioned; so interesting. And to think I stumbled upon it just to...
Which Preamp Tube is most consequential: Input or Gain
Hi @ghasley I got my info from tech support at Schiit (quote):L/R on the Freya is actually input/cathode follower and top/bottom is l/r. I’ll try to confirm, but so that means you were suggesting going with the input side -- which if the tech is r...
