Get out and listen!
It was interesting to hear how much listening factors into engineers' work: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2022/10/17/the-science-and-emotions-of-lincoln-centers-new-sound?utm_source=onsite-share&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=onsite-sh...
what’s a song cover that you think is better than the original?
@zydeco1 Thanks. I look forward to listening and hearing more from her in the future!
what’s a song cover that you think is better than the original?
@zydeco1 thanks for turning me on to this young talent. It seems she specializes in sounding like other singers. Does she do her own thing yet???
what’s a song cover that you think is better than the original?
Thanks for this thread and all these new and old things to listen to! I love covers, so it's hard to choose one. I've always been very partial to Shawn Colvin's version of Steve Earle. Also, while it's hard to best Neil Young, this cut by Jill Sob...
Setup Speakers Along Long Wall?
Recording studios will sometimes use long interconnects without worry. I've had to deal with all the size shape and position issues you mentioned and cable length has never made a noticeable difference. Speaker cable length also didn't change soun...
A perfect song? What are your choices?
Ha! Stephen Colbert asks in his silly Colbert Questionnaire "You can only listen to one song for the rest of your life; what is it?" Ringo Starr immediately said "Come Together;" John Batiste stopped himself after naming 3 or 4. I think perfect so...
Keeping your components Dust Free
One more vote for Swiffer -- the cloths that would go on a mop, I use as a dust rag. They seem to get dust to cling better than cotton. For speakers, I don't push, but let the light weight of the Swiffer cloth drag across the cone.
Does a REL subwoofer make the speakers' job easier?
REL subs are support for lower end extension and do not provide a crossover to your main speaks, as others here have clarified. I think there is more debate on two vs. one sub and placement. Hearing where bass comes from is the issue -- it's impos...
Looking for wider soundstage
You probably know this, since you referred to treatments, but the soundstage often depends on keeping out confusing reflections between speakers and ears. Your TV is reflecting and your couch is absorbing. If you can put a first reflection absorbe...
Your sub experience: Easy or hard?
I agree with comments that variation in recordings makes subs tricky even when you get it set up right for the room. I have a REL T2, which they call sub-bass. I'm a bass player, so I always notice thin bass and enjoy this sub's addition. But I am...
Magnepan LRS Support Group?!
Hi @rop45 , I won't have mine for months so can't help. There are a lot of reviews you might check out. LOL! @secretguy -- I just moved and am basically in listening without regard to sound. Still looking forward to tweeking in 5 months.
Magnepan LRS Support Group?!
@terry9 Wow, the Ziegfield theater in NYC will have nothing on you! I'll be patient...
Magnepan LRS Support Group?!
@russ69 Thanks! My dedicated listening room is tiny, but coincidentally almost the same size that Herb Reichert used for his review. Mine's 9.5 x15 feet, so I'll have to fiddle with your suggested measurements! If they don't work there, I'll put t...
Magnepan LRS Support Group?!
@ejlif that is the kind of reaction that I'm hoping will keep my patience up! Interesting to hear about the amp pairing, too. Enjoy, and thank you for sharing!
Magnepan LRS Support Group?!
Thanks @jasonbourne52 for the advice. In the stereophile review measurements, John Atkinson echoed what @russ69 says above: "Interpreting the measured performance of a panel loudspeaker such as the Magnepan LRS is far from straightforward. Overall...
