Dynaudio Sapphire Do a search for a review of the Sapphire written by fellow Agon member, kthomas.I bought Kirk's C4's when he upgraded to the Sapphire's and I managed to get a brief, 15 minute listen to them. The Sapphires where not broken in yet, but they sounded...
Euphoric Realism vs. Euphonic Romanticism It appears that you've tried a lot of the best. One I don't see on your list is the VAC Renaissance. I have no first-hand knowledge of the VAC Ren. pre or many of the other brands you have listed, however, in my limited time with the entry level A...
Best used speaker - Vand 2CE or Soliloque 6.3? As a former owner of Soliloquy, I second the recommendation of Vandersteens.
Size matters...need smaller speakers Another Dynaudio "homer" here. I second the suggestion of Dynaudio Confidence C1's. A smallish bookshelf with a big, smooth sound. Another suggestion, is the Verity Parsifal Encore, a floorstander with a very small footprint. Can be had used on th...
YOUR Favorite Bookshelf/Monitor below $500 Dynaudio Audience 50's or 52's... a step above the 42's previously mentioned and right in the $500 to $600 range.I currently own both the 42's & 52's in smaller systems, and both are very nice.
audiophiles get mention in today's WSJournal I thought it was an entertaining, light-hearted read. To a great extent, I agree with the premise of the article that this hobby is a bit crazy & self indulgent. I don't care what others think of my hobby or if they think I'm wasting my money....
Heard my friend's system, thinking of leaving hifi I've owned the Silverline Sonata II's. Decent speaker (kinda large), but despite it's size, it is lean in the bass and would benefit from a subwoofer (you only need one BTW). Even though Silverline does employ some Dynaudio drivers in their design...
Heard my friend's system, thinking of leaving hifi I've owned the Plinius 8200 MKII, and its a fine product for the price. However, I've also owned the Soliloquy 6.2i's and think you can do much better. I don't know what you have in mind for a budget, but my first speaker recommendation would be s...

Need Speakers at least 4 feet high Dynaudio Confidence C2's or C4's would meet your price criteria if purchased used. The C2's are approx. 61" tall and the C4's come in at 69" tall. I have no experience with Kharma's speakers, but I've owned the C2's and now own the C4's, and can t...
Top 5 Entry-level audiophile speakers $1500-2000? Even though I'm a BIG fan & loyal owner of Dynaudio speakers, low volume listening is not their strong suit. I'd recommend looking for some high efficiency speakers that can easily be driven by a moderately powered tube integrated amp. Jond's ...
What do you do when you listen to music? 90% of the time I surf the web, reading... 8% just listening, < 2% cleaning the acquarium.
Pairing Aesthetix Calypso w/ Pass Labs or Plinius? There's a review of the Calypso on Audiogon which the reviewer has paired with the Plinius SA-102.I own the SA-102, and hope to add the Calypso pre this spring / summer when I have spare funds.
Which floorstander to match Accuphase E-450? I'll throw out a few: (all fall into your $ range used)1. Dynaudio Confidence C2's (I own these and am biased)2. Verity Parsifal Encore3. Von Schweikert VR-4SR, VR-5SE, DB-99mkIICould also go with Dynaudio C1 monitors with a REL Studio subwoofer.
Why spend megabucks on a tuner? I listen to a local classical station several times a week via a modded Jolida tuner with very satisfying results. I hope to eventually upgrade to a Magnum Dynalab MD-102 triode when funds permit. |
