Plinius SA-50 MKIII vs SA-103 I owned the SA-102 for several years and thought it was a great amp... and like Samzx12, I also owned a BAT VK 200, but IME, the Plinius sounded much better to me than the BAT amp.I don't know this to be certain, but have read that the SA-102 &...
Synergy between Calypso- JLTI- Sim audio W-5 I tried my Calypso with SIM W-6 monoblocks. The Calypso has remained with me for over 2.5 years... the SIM's didn't last one week before I moved on.
2 Channel or 5 Channel- Dynaudio Confidence 5 Bigbucks5 nailed it. Been there... done that... 2 channel is the way to go.
SimAudio i5 vs Creek Destiny you'd be moving backwards going from the Creek to the Sim... lateral at best.
Aesthetix Calypso with SS power amp: good or bad ? Jimf - curious as to what tubes Andy recommended for your Calypso?
Aesthetix Calypso with SS power amp: good or bad ? I think I've had my Calypso for about 3 years now... a record for me. Have used it successfully with both ss (Plinius SA-102) and now tubes (McIntosh MC275 mk V). The ability to tweak the sound to ones liking by rolling tubes make it a keeper for ...
Plinius SA amps I had the Plinius SA-102 amp & CD-LAD combo and never had a noise problem. The CD-LAD is not at the same performance level as the SA-102 or 250. I sold the CD-LAD and upgraded to an Aesthetix Calypso with NOS tubes, which turned out to be a si...
vintage tuner: McIntosh or Sansui? Got my Sansui TU-919 for $650 on EBay. Best $650 I've spent in audio.
Sound of SED Winged C KT88 vs. SED Winged C 6550's Newbee - just for clarification, I never got thru to Kevin Deal, as one of his helpers would not let me talk to him... so it was one of Kevin's employees that said there was no sonic differences between the two tubes. Thanks for the useful info... ...
What upgrade? The greatest thrill (and sometimes disappointment) in this hobby is trying new things & combinations. Enjoy the journey!
What upgrade? I once owned the BAT VK-200 paired with the VK-30. It did not a fulfilling combo for me. YMMV.
What upgrade? I think your amp is the weakest link in your system. Changing out the Rogue pre for the BAT pre's listed is a lateral move at best... maybe a step back. Your cdp and speakers have good reputations, so additional improvements would come at a high c...
McIntosh MC 275 Mk IV or V with Harbeth M-40.1? Ryder - Thanks for the kind sentiments. I know you've been experimenting with various amplification for your SHL-5's. I highly suggest you buy an MC 275 MK V. I'm still listening with the stock tubes and Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" redbook CD has n...
McIntosh MC 275 Mk IV or V with Harbeth M-40.1? Toetap - Before making the plunge, I too was concerned that the Harbeth / McIntosh tube amp combo could be "too much of a good thing"... but IME, the two really sound great together. I know your not a fan of either Harbeth or McIntosh, but I recen... |
