Upgrade RB300 Tonearm or Not?
Bside, if your budget will allow a used Graham or late model SME, I would defnitely recommend you go for one of them. Graham 2.2s have been selling at very reasonable prices lately.I agree with Johnny that the RB's bearings are a problem. No count...
Upgrade RB300 Tonearm or Not?
No, it is NOT worth it.If you are willing to go used, you can get a substantial upgrade that will easily outperform any modified RB300 by a huge margin. Narrod mentions the VPI, and you can also look at arms like a Bluenote, Morch, Hadcock etc. Yo...
Showdown: Your Favorite Cart for Classical?
Hi Raul. You single out Koetsu, but I couldn’t really understand what you mean. Are you saying the other cartridges more consistent with different types of music?I use a Koetsu and have been for many years now; most definitely enjoy the Koetsu fam...
used koetsu
Contact Melvin Ang - shoot me an email and I give you his contact info. I was quoted $800 for a rosewood rebuild or $1200 for a rebuild and upgrade to rosewood signiture (that was about a year ago). Took about 6 weeks or so.RegardsPaul
With 15W tube amp, which speakers to use?
Any high(sh) efficiency single driver speaker like Cardersound Madisons. I use Madisons on a 12wpc SE amp and can drive them to very high volume levels without a hint of distress to my amp. RegardsPaul
Diffusion or Absorption behind the speakers?
Agree with Tiger. I found diffusion on the front wall between my speakers gave me a very ‘alive’ and vibrant sound, yet still detailed, accurate and natural. It also seemed to increase my soundstage. Both corners behind the speakers I have DIY bas...
Your last speaker?
CarderSound Madisons. I may replace the Fostex 206E driver with a Lowther EX something later on, but these babies will grace my soundroom for a very very long time ... perhaps longer than I ;-)RegardsPaul
Are horns and hi-eff designs becoming more popular
05-23-08: Mapman[of Cadersounds] Unfortunately, the big speaker effect discussed in this thread impacts me...there is nowhere in my home I could place them and do them justice even if I were inclined to. Is height a problem or footprint? Jeff mak...
Are horns and hi-eff designs becoming more popular
05-22-08: Johnk ... So I dont think large sized loudspeakers will ever become popular. Whilst that may be true, it is really sad. Big(gish) horns do sound great. I have a pair of Cardersound Madisons that are little over 6 foot high and I am bolw...
Koetsu cartridges - myth or reality?
Fernando - all the Koetsu's are great. I really love mine and recommend them unreservedly. However Raul brings up a very good point. Your RB300 cannot, and will not, bring the best out of a Koetsu, not even the Black. If you go for a Koetsu you'll...
Speakers "pumping" with record warps - normal?
Yep it's 'normal' (I use the term normal very loosely) and you could most certainly damage your speakers. You can solve the problem by using a rumble filter - KAB makes quite a nice one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.RegardsPaul
tube friendly speaker rec
Have a look at these http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?spkrfull&1212013442 . I have listened to them at the builders home and they sound absolutely superb. For the price they are an absolute steal. They're super easy to drive and throw a h...
New Product......Intelligent Box
Seems some people are confusing an 'open mind' with an 'ignorant mind'. Not really the same thing ...
Tuning a back loaded horn
Rodmann - I put about 5/8 of a pound of polyfill packed quite tightly behind each driver. The bass that was bugging me is greatly reduced, and somewhat to my surprise, the speakers seem to have more snap, more detail and improved midrange!Man, bac...
Tuning a back loaded horn
Third attempt to respond to Johnk question.John, the speakers I use is at http://homepage.mac.com/tlinespeakers/FH/download/Sachiko-map-1v0-230307.pdf. I use Fostex 206E drivers. Thanks Paul
