Anybody familiar with Mundorf silver&oil caps
Hi folksThe thread is a little old and I do not own that phono stage anymore. I ended up using Dynamicaps and bypassed them with 0.022uF V-Cap TFTFs. To my ear the bypassing did improve sound and did not smear the representation in any way. If any...
A 9 watts SET for the Maggies, Heavenly marriage
Robert, since you like the kit 1, you may want to look at the Audionote Kit 2. Although only rated at 12wpc, it is significantly more capable than any 300B I have heard, and IMHO somically better in some respects. It seems to have the edge in dyna...

Best Cartridges for the Money You've Experienced
Raul, I was wondering if you could recommend a cart alignment device. I have tried a couple, but the only one that work well for me is the Graham that allow me to align with the arwand off the table. What device do you use? Thank you in advance.Bol...
tube Watts vs solid state Watts
Perceived loudness and amplifier wattage is not the same thing. Agreed a watt is a watt, no matter what (excuse the pun). On a thread some time ago (I am to lazy to search now) a couple of posters stated that even if the fundamental remains the sa...
Looking at tubes ...
Not sure what there is to watching tubes … kind of like watching a turntable go round and round, only a little less exciting. In some applications tubes do contribute to a very natural and lifelike sound. Depending on where you want to employ tube...
Shelter 501 Mk II vs Koetsu Black
Davt, Not sure if this will help. I've compared the 901 against a Koetsu Rosewood. No contest - the Koetsu cleaned it's clock (to my ear that is)RegardsPaul
Get a better turntable or better phono preamp?
Second the phono preamp
High vs. Low Efficiency Speakers
If you like tube amps, a high efficiency speaker with a benign impedance curve is a no-brainer.RegardsPaul
Koetsu Restoration
Soundsmith does a retip on Koetsus, they do not (as far as I know) rebuild the Koetsu. The only folks that do that are Koetsu themselves. I have had a Soundsmith retip twice on my Rosewood, and sonically it was at least as good as the original.Sad...
Improve your ear with these. 834p
Pedrillo. I have hard wired the driver stage of my Audionote 6550 SEP amp using tara labs solid core silver wiring. There was a definite and noticeable improvement, but I had to be very cautious as not to introduce noise. Sloppy wiring will act as...
Valve Amplifier suited for my system
Any of the manufacturers you mention have amps suitable for your speakers. If you are unfamiliar with tube amp topologies (single ended, push pull, triode, pentode etc.), I would suggest you speak to a retailer and audition a couple. If you can ge...
Which Mundorf for my tubes?
TFTF V-Caps are the best I have heard, but they are very very costly. I think the V-Caps will cost more than your AV-8s. Chris has released some 300v rated caps which are more affordable, but cheap they are notIf cost is a factor, Mundorf Silver a...
Which Mundorf for my tubes?
My personal preference is for the Silver Oil, but I have seen a folks who prefer the Silver Gold. I don't think you will be making a mistake either way. Just be sure you have enough space, the Mundorf caps are a bit bigger than average (I use the ...
Tube integrated amps
Dynaudio recommends 60 wpc for smaller rooms, and at least 80wpc for bigger rooms.Given the specs - 6ohm nominal impedence and sensitivity of 86db I would tend to agree with Dynaudio. If you really want tubes I'd suggest you look at using a hybrid...
