Speaker Polish? REVISITED
Dave, although someone said in the earlier thread that Scott's was recommended by B&W, and I seem to recall that Harbeth's md also said he uses it (I will get confirmation of that), it actually says at scottsliquidgold.com that the product is ...
Why is Double Blind Testing Controversial?
Huh? Redkiwi and Seandt were obviously joking. None of the recent posters seem upset. And, this topic is only off limits in the cable asylum. No rule against mentioning or discussing DBT's in the general or other specialized asylums.Simple courtes...
Speaker Polish?
Err, um, thanks Sean and Tom, but I wasn't that worried. The nice thing about the product I use is that you put it on a cloth, as you say, and then apply it to the surface. There are some other products that spray on like a foam and are easier to ...
Speaker Polish?
Only in reaction to Twl's comment above about too much oil. Not about Scott's, in particular. It's what Harbeth recommended to me also. I guess the Brits like it, and they've been polishing wood furniture for a long time.
Filling speaker cavities with cat litter
Depends on the purpose of filling the cavity and what the manufacturer advises. If the purpose is to add mass or keep the cabinet from flexing, maybe not. I use unscented kitty litter in metal speaker stands to damp the ringing. No need to add any...
Where have the long-time regulars gone?
I must have included an incomplete sentence above, because I certainly know the difference between "they're" and "their." Maybe I meant someting like "their calling people names is unpleasant.""Naysayers," "idiots," "ignorant." See what I mean. We...
Why is Double Blind Testing Controversial?
Oh, Sean, I didnt mean anything by it. I was referring to another thread in which I had said that salespeople couldnt tell things apart. This was, at the time of my post above, a relatively friendly thread, and I was just trying to be friendly des...
Where have the long-time regulars gone?
CW, 12/01 only looks like a year to me, but that's ok if you'll fess up to being old. A lot of these issues that keep coming up are just boring to go into for the 20th time, and, frankly, the level of discourse has declined. There's a current thre...
What are best phono preamps under $500 ?
Nope. Music Direct sells it. I'm afraid to buy anything they sell.Back on topic, if I were in the market (and I might be), I think I would buy the Monolithic preamp. It was reviewed head to head in TAS a couple of years ago and the writer liked it...
Why is Double Blind Testing Controversial?
Well said Bomarc. I'll go a little further along that road. Most people who argue in favor of DBT's in these threads imply that audiophiles don't want to discover that they can't tell one thing from another. I think audiophiles believe that DBT's ...
What are best phono preamps under $500 ?
So much for integrity. "Get rid of that empty black box!" I've never heard it, but I understand that many people think it does a good job, sadly, many who purchased theirs from Music Direct. You should know, they arent "audio consultants," but sal...
Speaker Polish?
I use Scot's Liquid Gold and I am going to have nightmares about the veneer on my speakers.
Best imaging stand mounted speakers?
A 30 watt amp, 40 into 4 ohms, may not be enough power for some of the speakers mentioned above. The one with which I am most familiar, the Harbeth Compact 7, will sound nice with a low power amp with the kind of music you listen to, but you won't...
Tannoy?
Of course the name was synonymous with pa loudspeakers in England. When I ventured into my first hifi store 30 odd years ago, as opposed to the cal stereo, university stereo and pacific stereo chains, I was shown a pair of hifi speakers, said to b...
How do you determine your weakest link?
My suggestion is for you to enjoy your music and stop coming to places like this. Spend your free time at places like Borders. If you have itchy fingers at the computer keyboard, go to Amazon.com and search for your favorite artists on a regular b...
